How to Turbo high mileage engine
Friday, March 03, 2006 11:30 AM
ive got a 2200 in my car right now with 145,000 miles on it. i can go to a junkyard around here and pick up a spare 2200 for around 300.00, prolly with less mileage. should i boost my 145,000 miles engine or buy a spare and then boost.

i know in order to boost the higher mileage engine ill have to do a compression test and leak down test. but if i do decide to turbo this engine what else should i do to make sure she doesnt blow.

and if i get a spare and drop it in what should i do to it to prepare it for boost. thanks...

I don't know much about boosting, but I would build up the motor with new internals such as forged pistons and rods, etc.. If you do this the motor will be almost like new. Just gotta make sure the seals are still good, and replace them if needed.
