Dome light
Thursday, April 14, 2005 4:28 PM
Hey everyone. I did search this and couldnt find much. I noticed today that my dome light stayed on longer than usuall after i shut my car off and got out. Before, it was like around 30 seconds right? well now i think its the 20 minutes then automatically shuts off. well i guess my question is what might be wrong?? is there, or where is the timer for that stuff. i have a relocated stock deck in the trunk but that doesnt stay on (possibly because of the wiring) i checked that and now just wondering if anyone has any advice on where to start?? any help would be great. thanks in advance

i think those vents on ur quarter window make the dome light stay on..lol jk those have got ot go tho.. i wrecked my car before and mine just started doing this.. try to close a door and with the other one hold down the sensor thing that shuts off the dome light.. do the same with both doors.. if u hold one down with the key in the on postion and it doesnt go off on a door then its probably the sensor is broke or something which ive never heard of.. one of mine isnt making a good contact i guess hell if i know maybe cuz that side of the car was wreckd but i tapes like 2 penies to the door and it works now..lol oh yea and make sure u dont have the twist thing on the left of the steering wheel on..make sure its not "clicked"

Hey thanks. and yeah i know everyone will say MOST of my car needs to go lol. but hey its ok with me so thats all i got to say haha. but back to the problem. and if i am understanding right u are saying both doors have the sensor?? only the driver side does for me. but maybe i read that wrong. and i know for sure it isnt my twist thing i checked that. and while i am driving it doesnt stay on. only when i shut the car off and get out and shut my door. then it stays on too long. and maybe i dont make sence?? lol i am trying to figure this thing out the best i can but just not having good luck with it. Oh and i just got my stereo installed a week or so ago (not by me) and possibly i didnt notice this problem until now?? maybe somthing they did that caused this?? just wondering i guess. but thanks for the help though

I've noticed that also, most of the time i just can walk away and when i turn around its off, but once in a great while it just stays on longer than normal sometimes it works just opening and reclosing the door but others i have to start my car and shut it off again for it to work...

Make sure your door sensor button things are able to move good and arent loose or anything.

It likely the black pust button switch in the door jam, I had the same problem a couple of months ago, this would also for some odd reason cause my headlights to flashing and the horn blarring after the car had been parked for a few hours.. usually at like 4 o'clock in the morning.

I had the switch replaced and the dome light returned to normal and the other problems also stopped.

thats because you have an alarm and its triggard by the dome light going on which would usually mean ur door is open..lol thats not that odd

yeah lol i was gonna say geez that was a strange problem, mine hasnt got that far but i see why, no alarm. i really do think thats my problem though, cause all winter it froze and i had to pull it out whenever i got out of my car, so i think its toast. i should try that then and see if that helps any. thanks for all your help everyone

I don't have an alarm on my car .. The GM Tech could not explain the reason for the lights and horns
