4 10's in the trunk?
Thursday, March 03, 2005 5:18 PM
is there enogh space in the trunk to fit 4 10 inch kicker L7's? i had originally planned on going with 2 12's, but 4 10's sounds nicetoo. they'd be ported..

any pics of 4 subs in the trunk are welcome too

another thing...is it true that the smaller the sub, th faster it responds and the bigger the sub,the loude it is(because it moves more air) but its slower? what aare the advantages to 10, 12, 15, and 18? the whole thing is that i have it in my mind that 4 10's = 40 inches while the 2 15's i have now = 30 inches and i (think) the 10's will have more clarity to them or something...

Well, different speakers have different characteristics, sure. 10's on average are more punchy, where 15s tend to have more depth, and boom capability. But, I've seen 10s out-hit 12s too. So it's a guessing game. Remember that 4 10s don't equal 40 inches. You have to calculate actual area.

2 15's have a total surface area of about 353 square inches
4 10s have about 314.

So you can see that two 15s actually have more total surface area than 4 tens. If you go with 4 tens, you'll end up with a bit more of a tighter sound, whereas 2 15s will give you deeper bass. It all depends on the type of music you want to listen to, amongst other things.

or you could do what a buddy of mine did. he took two 10"s and one 15" and used the three together, tweaking the crossovers a bit, so he could get lower notes with the 15 too.

hm...

i listen to rap, r+b, spanish reggaeton, ect and i've always liked the way kickers sound even though i've never owned them. wouldnt running 2 different sized subs give me cancelation? the 2 15 audiopipes i have now are great for the low tones, but in the higher tones, they're real lacking. i think a 2 10's and 1 15 could look real nice(10's in the corners of the trunk, 15 in the spare tire well), but i've always heard about cancelation.

really no truth to that at all. a 15 will play just as quick as a 10 will as long as it is crossed over properly. now a 15 will have the ability generlly speaking to play lower, but there are 10's out there that can get down in the 10hz range as well. a single 15 generally will push more air then a 10, but it also is more expensive, and will require a bigger box. theres always a drawback to everything.

i wouldn't suggest mixing sub sizes together if you do run say a 10 and a 15 i'd run the 10's strictly midbass or your just going to be wasting output.

space is never a problem for me. all i haul around are my books for class. my back seat is always down unless i;m giving someone a ride.

1 15 tuned to 30 and 2 10's tuned to 80 or 90 maybe? the 2 15's i have now sound great on the real low tones, but up higher, its barely audible. normally its not a problem because the music i listen to is pretty low, but on those occations when i feel like listening to something else for a change, i get no bass. maybe this 1 15, 2 10 idea might work well for me..

when you say tuned do you mean tuning your port size/length? if so 80 or 90 is pretty high , you may as well not use a sub if you want your rolloff to be around 80 hz.....

if u run 2-10's from say 80hz up to around 500 hz. you'd get great midbass but i'd suggest mounting them up front and not in your trunk, or will sound like half the band ist stuck in your trunk.

I'm running 4 rockford subs in the trunk of my z24 hatch, with the amps its a tight squeeze, but I have to admit, it seems like a bit too much for the car. To keep it practical, with 4 subs in the back, in a box bolted to the floor, it is impossible to get to my spare tire on the side of the road.

Well i just got a basslink T and i still have my 2 basslinks. So that 3 10"s, 4 10 inch passive radiators and 3 amps, and i still have room for stuff in the middle.

I love infinity.
