I'm a little confused as to how i am going to build this box. i think that ia m going to do a sealed box vs a ported because i want to save as much room as possible.
on the JL site. they reccommend a 1.375 cu.ft box.
on their diagram the size of the box they use is: H:19, D:11.75, W: 16"
to my calculation that gives a box size of over 2 Cubic feet.....i suppose the wood takes up space too..
what would be the correct measurements for my box to get a 1.375 cu.ft box...also on the jl site they list the displacement for the sub at .14cu.ft. should this be taken into consideration when buidling?

the slanted back won't really be "better"
and yes, you have to add the sub displacement to your total airspace.
so your total volume needs to be 1.515 (i'd just do 1.5 cubes even)

so doing 1.5 cubic feet:
a size that would work would be: 12 X 19 X 16 = 2.111 Cu. ft. external
if ihave a 1 inch front place and .75" mdf the rest of the box internal volume would be
10.25 Depth x 17.5 Height x 16 width = 1.5052 Cu.ft..
is that right?
also i heard that it is bad to have a "Square" enclouse, rectangle works better.

just make what will fit your application. the differences in the shape will be too little to make a difference in sound.
as for the measurements....12x19x16 external using 3/4" wood will work fine.

also as far as sealing the box, wood glue and dry wall nails. also on the inside i'll put caulking to make it air tight.
one more thing, will putting fibre into the box help the sound, ihad it for my type R's and i odnt know if it worked or not?

i just use the woodglue to seal the seams while i'm building it. it works just as well as caulking, but it's easier to do it all at once. either way you wanna do it will work fine.
using polyfill...again, the differences will be minimal, your already building the box to specs, polyfill is usefull in tight boxes, for intance if you are unable to build the box large enough due to space constraints in the vehicle.

one other final thing someone mentioned to me is that the box shouldn't be all flat surfaces and i SHOULD slant either the front of back of the box.
should i do that?
if i was to slant either way i would slant the front of the box backwards a little. but this is going to affect the calculation of volume. how would i calculate it with a slanted box?
or is it just guessing?

Wouldnt it make sense that if you slant the top in 2 inches put the bottom out two inches? Thatd keep it to the same specs wouldnt it. Just a thought
