So I am half way to finishing my high end audio system build
So far I have JL components in the front and Infinity in the rear powered by 1000 watts Phoenix Gold amp
Now, I am looking for a DOUBLE DIN head unit to go with that. Looking to spend upto $300. What can you guys suggest?
Also I want a pair of really good subs...something like JL W6 or RE SXX or RF 3.. the question is should I go with a pair of 10s or 12s and should I choose ported or sealed box?
I listen to all kinds of music ranging from trance to rock.
Now when you say DDIN, do you mean a screen, or simply a DDIN audio unit?
You won't even get to TOUCH a high end screen for less than 500.
I don't need a touch screen or a dvd player or gps or anything fancy like that, a plain high end deck will do.. the reason why i am looking for double is because i want to fill up the space in the dash...
my intentions is to add another pair of components with 2 HIGH END 12'' subs and 2 more amps.. 2 IRAQQI alterantors and 2 yellow optima batteries are coming as well.. i already talked with my mechanics about their install.
I want to build the most powerful and clear sounding system that jbo has ever seen..

Dream big
Kenwood DPX303 would fit your budget.
Unfortunately, most high end (SQ) decks are NOT build in DDIN. Most are 1DIN

That's gonna be your biggest problem. Along with that, the only real quality options are likely to be touch screen and have all the crap you don't need. Tricks of the marketing trade...
"In Oldskool we trust"
I haven't seen you list a single "high end" brand yet... JL is as close as you have gotten
Your budget isn't warranting a good double din, or "high end" subs/speakers/amps.... Honestly. I can talk high end with you all day long, and plenty of people here, and outside of here, that I have sold to, as well as installed for will vouch for some top notch brands... but they aren't anywhere near your budget.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
Liquor is not a drug John, liquor is not a drug.
Opinion or time tested, proven facts and experience? I'm not bashing you, just saying... You said "high end". And high end equipment comes with higher end price tags. If you want a good double din, I just installed an awesome Pioneer that would run you between 800 and a grand... want higher end amps, components and subs? look into things like Morel, DynAudio, Tru, DLS, Rainbow, Synfoni, Image Dynamics, Brax/Helix, just to name a few..

Agreed...there is nothing high end about phoenix gold...nor infinity unless you are talking kappa. As far as the question you asked, since you like trance and rock I would say go with a pair of tens or twelves in a sealed enclousure. Sealed offers more punchy quick delivery that that your type of music demands...you can't have the most powerfull good sounding setup that jbo has ever seen...sealed sounds the best but doesent get that loud, ported has a lag but gets deeper and louder but looses clarity. So pick your poision
I see you buy into all the myths of ported enclosures being "laggy" and smaller subs getting "punchier". Ugh.......

It isn't a myth, look at freq on a scope or a graph...its just how it is.punchy is a high freq like 60htz witch smaller subs love...hents why 10s and 12s rule in spl. Cuz they hit a higher freq. 15s 18s like low tones around 35htz the lower the tone,it has to echo and therefore is laggy. The reason why it seems to be laggy is a low tone you can feel before you can hear. Sound studies support this "myth"
Also an answer to you question is if u want a DECENT double din for less that 300 go to ebay and type in soundstream. I have a double din soundstream and it not bad. I only paid 200$...now its not high end but it aint bad for the money...also good for a cheap price is planet audio or powerbass.imo
U bwant subs to play low. Where they're made to. Sorry I'm much more into sq than getting loud amd the best sounding sq setups I've ever experienced ran 15s. Keeeep arguing with me guy.

Is obvious you font know sq at a competition level. I and my club and buisness have been sq and spl competitors in usaci and midwest spl for years. While we have dominated in both aspects I'd say we know about sq and spl. Look up my name, dude. I have been to world finals in 5 diffrent orgs and have NEVER...I repeat NEVER seen a pair of 15s in an sq setup. And if there was such a thing it would have got docked in staging and imaging. Like I said look up my stats...what have u done?
U obviously haven't been around many years to have never seen a 15 in a comp winning sq car.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I have two titles in sq comps,I have seen hundreds of sq cars, even in ucaci's forums I asked and 7 users agree with me and they too have never seen 15s in a sq car. But if u like 15s then more power to ya. I'm not saying its not possible, I'm saying it won't image on a score sheet...
Jlaudiocavalier, have you competed in an sq event?
Or do u say you like sound quality cuz you think your sounds good?
Do you know how a scoresheet works, imaging, staging?
Lol
You picked the wrong forum to have a superiority complex on dude.
Also. If you are RELYING on a sub in any way for sq you're doing it wrong. Subs are an afterthought in the sq world.
Bradsk88, I'm not trying to be superior to anyone. But when someone speaks of sq they need to know what they are talking about. Just because a kid thinks his system sounds good dosent mean he knows sq. And I will always stand up to anyone when my integraty is questioned. And as far as your comment yes you are right sub isn't the most important component to an sq setup...your exactly right. The whole conversation was based on jlcavilier questioning my profession and knowledge. I'm not here to argue with anyone, I done what you are supposed to do...I stated my opinion and someone decided to basicaly disprove it. I do not have a superioraty complex...just stating my opinions that's all.
You have a VERY arrogant way of presenting your OPINIONS.
Now, yes I have seen a couple SQ WINNING cars back quite a few years ago running larger subs. You understand that by saying "well these subs are punchier, they play up around 60hz is why", makes you sound like you don't have a full idea on the concept of a substage and how it works? I will get a 10 to play low quite efficiently. No problem. And at the same time I can guarantee I, as well as others, can get a 15 quite transparent. See like Brad said, you don't sound like you fully get how the substage in a kick ass SQ car works... I would love to see your winnings in USACi, Seriously, I would. Not being a dick, but someone who has won, I would love to see the setup you ran. I actually DO know how sq comps work. The only thing that SPL comps have over SQ(I @!#$ HATE SPL BURP VEHICLES. USELESS. I enjoy music), but the one thing they have going for them is a set measurement. It's not 100% subjective to judges like SQ. Which kinda blows. But anyway, think of subs like the Morel Optimo. Which is VERY highly regarded as being one of the most transparent out there. Can't even tell there's a sub playing. You do realize that's what an SQ substage is about right? It's not about having "punchy" 60hz frequencies right? It's about smoothly playing all the lower notes and blending seamlessly with the front stage to the point of not even hearing it at all.
I hate to sound as arrogant as you, but Brad was correct in saying you picked the wrong place to act like king @!#$. I don't care who you are, think you are, who you know, what you've done. DO NOT act smarter or better than anyone in this audio forum, I will cut you down to tears.
BTW, since you brag so much about your knowledge and your "crew".... just checked the myspace link to your little car club. I'm not impressed dude. not in the least bit. Sorry. And no pics or info of any high end SQ competition winning set ups either...
AND FURTHERMORE, Mr. High-and-mighty... You also realize that over all cleanliness of install is a HUGE factory in SQ cars right? how does a spray bombed interior, VERY basic "trunk setup" showing off your cap and wires, and PLANET AUDIO(here you brag about high end?!?!?!) win USACi events? Here's me taking down my humble approach and just calling BS outright.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
Liquor is not a drug John, liquor is not a drug.
Shiiiittt..... After reviewing all the pics of their "Klub", I might want to retract everything that I said that wasn't positive. They all appear to be WAY too "hardkore". After seeing everyone wearing that shirt, I might be scared here! oh noez!
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
Liquor is not a drug John, liquor is not a drug.
That Buick is actually one of the cars I was thinking of. And then you take a good long look at their installs. THOSE are USACi winning installs. Sorry man, but if your eyes can't see that you Cav is nowhere near them, you are blind.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
Liquor is not a drug John, liquor is not a drug.
Lol man that was my club years ago. Nobody had been on there or updated anything in years. As for that install I was a noob and didn't know jack. Your right not impressive...hell I had to laugh as well. Hardkore was the shop that sponsored me, I have been sponsored by planet audio and digital designs as well. Nothing back then was sq,I did spl and was lucky to do a 145. Your also right planet is crap,so was my old setups. The cavi wasn't even my sq car I have done nothing but spl in that car. If anyone thought I was coming off arrogant I apoligize but as I stated my opinion on what I thought he should do and why I don't need some douche attacking my post. As a member I have the right to post my opinion...that's all I did. As for what you think of me or my club it doesn't matter.my club has evolved from the myspace days years ago,as you can tell from the pic of my sig. But thanks for the links, I see there is such a thing now...I haven't seen it all yet but I guess I was wrong.
Going to be entirely honest and say that reply is about as humble and mature as I could have expected. No more major qualms. Except you thinking you need small subs to be "tight" and not "laggy"
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

its all good, I didn't mean to come across that way. Kinda had a bad day. Even my wife says I been in dick mode...guess I need to get some. Lol
