Temp/MPG Display
Monday, December 01, 2008 4:11 AM
Hey guys. I need help trying to find something. I don't know if it even exists. I used to have a 03 Camry XLE (fully loaded). One of the many features I enjoyed was a display the would tell me the outside temp and would also display my MPG (how far I could drive on a tank of gas). Does anyone know of an after market set up like this that I might be able to put into my 02 Z24. I have been looking and have turned up nothing, the help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your time.

I've seen outside temperature readouts (Google brings them up quickly enough), but it seems to me that a gauge for your MPG/Range would have to be very proprietary to your car so that it could get the needed information from the ECM.

I just figured that if one was mechanically inclined, as I am. You would just have to put a sensor of some sort in your fuel tank and run some wires, and put all of your vehicle info into some kind of interface module. I agree with what your saying, it just doesn't seem like it wouldn't be that bad of an idea to come up with some thing like that. But what do I know? Thanks for your input.

the mpg sensor can be done with a lot of knowhow. youd need a digital odometer, a sensor on your fuel lines to recognize how much fuel is flowing, a circuit board to do the math and last but no least a digital readout. can it be done? yes. is it worth it? probably not. i do know that Cadillac Sevilles and El Dorados from the 1990's had that all built in and it may even be adaptable but it once again wont be worth your effort. just try the old fashion method. use the trip meter, the fuel pump, and a calculator.....

"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin

Thank you for your input. And your right the more I think about it the less it seem to be worth my damn time. I just just it was a nice feature and if it was able to be done easily and cost effective I probably would. But never the less thank you guys for your time, you have all been very helpful.

well, considering it reads injector flow, VSS and several other pieces of data on the GM data bus... I'd say relatively accurate.

I found some gauges that I like and one of them does the temp, time, and compass. The gauges are from Cyberdyne? Has anyone heard of these, or used them?

All but one (using a Nordskog for the fuel since it reads as a percent instead of gallons and doesn't need calibrating). Only problem I've had is the odo stopped working. Lifetime warranty FTW

There are many aftermarket mirrors (rear view) that can give you a direction readout, and an outside temp readout.

Cheers.
