Left Rear Turn Signal Trouble
Tuesday, June 03, 2008 12:22 PM
My left rear turn signal went out the other day and I replaced the bulb last night. I tested it, and it worked fine but I did not turn the engine on. Today, the first time I turned the engine on with the new bulb, it blew a few seconds after driving and I got the rapid turn signal syndrome when turning left. This is the first issue of had with this in 6 years of owning my car. Has anyone had this happen before? Is there a short somewhere in the wire or is it just a crazy coincidence that my bulbs blew. Thanks for any info!

if you just changed the bulb, its probably still good.....check the bulb if its still good the your gonna need a new socket. Common problem, happened to my left rear in my 2001. i bet you if you mess with the bulb it will work but stop working after you let go or something to that effect. If thats the case just go to autozone and get a new socket and wire it in....

i was able to keep the socket by cleaning it out. socket gets filled with @!#$ some how... clean it out with contact cleaner or rubbing alcohol and try the bulb again.

Thanks for the replies! I looked this morning and did see that the bulb was still good. The socket was filled with that orange grease junk, but it looks like its supposed to be there. All I actually had to do was turn the bulb 180 degrees and put it back in the socket. I didn't notice it when I first changed it, but the contacts on the bulb are different on both sides and match up differently to the socket. I don't know how it even worked for a little bit the first time. I drove to work today and it's still working! I'm quite happy I won't be spending all day Saturday re-wiring my car. Thanks!

theres been lots of recalls and TSBs on them. the bulb apparently melts in the socket or something. i usually just clean the socket up and its good to go.
