Ok I have a 2004 Sunfire GT with the Monsoon 8 speaker sound system with the factory amp and the door tweeters, I would like to replace my headunit with a Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT im debating what will sound better, just replace the headunit and leave the stock monsoon speakers with the monsoon amp in there, or replace the door speakers with Alpine Type S SPS-46C2 4x6" Coaxial 2-Way Speakers and the rear with Alpine Type R SPR-69C 6x9" Coaxial 2-Way Speakers bypassing the monsson amp and just running all the speakers off of the headunit power, what will sound better? if I just replace the headunit will my stock monsoon speakers last using a aftermaeket head unit? and no I do not want to buy components and no I do not want to purchase a aftermarket amp to power the aftermarket speakers, all I would like to know is what will sound better, aftermarket speakers running off aftermarket headunit power with no amp or aftermarket headunit using all the stock monsoon speakers and stock monsoon amp, thanks
alpine is 95% of the time crystal clear as long as there is a connection. not really much fun to play with, but clear.
i havent played with monsoon much therefor thats the only advice i can toss at you.
hope it helps!
I would def. Say replace the headunit FIRST. Monsoon, although not the best premium factory radio, was still damn good! although i love alpine! I'd say that the factory amped speakers are goin to sound better than none amped alpine speakers. If nothing else, the monsoon will probably have a "fuller" sound to it cuz its amped. Whereas the alpine speakers might be louder, will probably have a flat sound to them. Trust me, I have the same problem in my J. I opted to swap speakers and run them off the hu. Kinda wish i woulda stuck with factory.
144db@38hz! It hurts so good !
Bump, anyone else have input?
Come on guys there has to be others that have an opinion
whatt else do you want? its gonna sound best if you repllace the headunit first and wait to buy speakers and an amp for them. all i can say is that when you do upgrade your speakers, put in kick panels and components in the doors and kicks and disconnect the 6x9s itll sound amazing.
"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin

Read the post, I do not want to do what your saying
keep the monsoon system and upgrade the headunit. all were saying is that if you decide to upgrade the speakers later you should have a good frontstage and forget the rear stage. so as an answer to your inital question, get a new headunit.
