All using large capacitors. ? for you.
Sunday, July 01, 2007 8:01 AM
Hello everyone, I've recently found a parasitic draw in my car. Drains my yellow top in about a week. I located the draw to my capacitor. The draw is about 200mA. I'm under construction (since forever I think!) so there is no sound system in the vehicle, the only thing powered from the cap is the compressor and controller for my air ride. I dissconnected those from the cap and the draw is still there. The cap is a 20 farad Tsunami X15HCAP, I've never used anything bigger than 1 or 2 farad caps in the past and my question is do you think that this draw is normal for such a large cap or might there be a problem with the cap itself? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

hmmm i might be mistaken but i believe anything higher than a 5 farad you are recommended to have 2 batteries. but if i'm wrong then i would check with the manufacturer and see what they say.

quick way to teat it flip the volt ohm meter on ohms and test it it should count up or down cant remember witch and then the vom screen will go blank this means it discharged and is working fine any ways if it stays still like locked on a number like 1000 ohm it is a dead short. how a cap is made it is to plate one on each side positive and negative separated by a dielectric problem is those plate tuch each other or the metal cans there in any ways hope it's not bad

I had a 5 farad stinger hybrid cap that went bad and was pulling a drain on my yellow top. I ditched the cap and installed a khc800 kinetik battery in the trunk and it made a world of difference. Also, be sure you have good guage wire.

you should just ditch the cap anyways. they're not needed for audio.
