I need some advice on what is causing my stock Cd/MP3 player in my 2005 Sunfire to malfunction.

The display screen no longer shows the time and CD info it just shows a red line running across the screen that will on occasions pop up with all sorts of random numbers and symbols. If I push on the case the display returns to normal but as soon as I left the pressure off it goes back to shows crazy lines ans numbers again.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Smack it. Your lcd display is going bad, take it back to the dealer if it's still under warranty.
