I have already used the search function and I came up empty. I am looking for a way to flush mount my stereo in my 1995 Sunfire. The kit that is in there now came with the car when I bought it and it looks poopty. It sticks out about one inch and it just about interferes with my shifting gears. Anyone know of any kits that are for the Sunfire please let me know, and pics if you have already done it. Thanks

I have a sunfire, standard transmission, and my stereo sticks out even further than that and doesn't interfere with my shifting.
it sticks out yeah, i finally got fed up with it and fixed this, its no kit though. theres two bolts at the bottom of the stereo/hvac panel that dont seem to go anywhere, they hold in that metal bracket at the back. first off i pulled that out, then cut out the plastic that was infront of it. i gained about 2 inches of depth. lastly i took my dremel to the DIN mounting kit so that the deck sat flush in the mounts bezel. it only sticks out about an 1/8" from the bezel, but thats the kit itself. i can post pics if need be.
^^^^^^^^ sure will, cav and sunfire kits are the same.

My HVAC knobs are identical to yours. I will have to try that with the bracket. Do you happen to have pics of the bracket? That would help alot. I appreciate all the info, guys

just beat it like it owes you money, it'll eventually go in.
never thought to take pictures while i was hacking the ish out of it, but i can throw up a pic of where the two bolts are if you need.
I found the bracket and the bolts, it gave me about an inch and a half more room. Thanks sunflowerpower for the tip. All I have to do now is buy the correct kit and VIOLA! I will have my flush mount. Thanks everyone

Not all of them.
I have a kit that fit in my '96 cavalier dash. When I went to install the radio into a 99 Sunfire, the tabs were in different locations.

I got some good news! That plastic piece that you cut on the sides(sunflowerpower), I took it completely off the metal bracket and now my stereo is back flush with the mount. I do not have pictures right now, but will post some as soon as possible. It looks ghetto for now, but at least I know how much room was gained removing that metal bracket in the back. Like I said I will post some pics, either tonight or tomorrow.

thats what throws me off (not just you, but everybody saying theirs mounted flush) because my wiring harness was hitting the back about an 1/8" before i even had everything seated, so the bracket hadn't even become an issue yet, the deck was too deep for the hole.
