Removable Sub enclosure
Sunday, October 01, 2006 8:06 AM
So i'm in the process of redoing some parts of my sunfire (the going from half-arse to proper in some areas). First thing on the list was a new carpted sub box as the one in my car was a naked 3/4 MDF box.

I've got the new box and it looks great. My question is are there any kits out there for a latch or pin system to secure the box to the trunk, so when I go to an autocross I can just pull the pins and remove the subwoofer. Only solution I've found so far is to buy a spring loaded gate latch and bend the brackets.

Any suggestions or known links to parts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Would industrial strength velcro work. I have seen it for sale at Sam's Club. Extra wide strips with a heavy duty adhesive. Might work. It costs around $25 for a box of the stuff and I think it contained 30 feet of the product.

velcro works great, but still isnt easy to get out if you need to remove the box. when and if you go to remove the velcro strips it can rip your trunk floor carpet. mine ripped

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

not to mention get in a high speed wreck and the box coule possibly come flying thru the back seat.

i would mount a couple of hooks on the floor and a couple of hooks on the box (or eye loops) and then use something lock the 2 together (pad lock maybe).

Whats up people?

run a padlock - type deal.. but use cotter pins instead of a lock.. that should work.

^^^ I was thinking something like that, except using a carabiner in place of the padlocks.

Something using these also seems possible...

I ended up getting 2 heavy duty door hinges. When i get to the autox I just pop out the pins. I mounted them both in the front so when I need to get to the spare tire I just tilt it forward on the hinges.

Used anchors into the MDF with big washers and wingnuts on the inside and then used self tapping sheet metal screws to secure it to the trunk floor after pre drilling some pilot holes.

Its working out really well and the BOX DOES NOT MOVE.

My box fits very snug in between the 2 plastic things that kinda hang there. Paint to get in and a pain to get out. I think if you get a few brackets with hand screws it would come out easy enough.
