So here is my setup
polk momo 6.5 in front
" " 6x9 in rear
" " 4 channel amp
Alpine 9857 HU
Thing is I really really need an EQ to finetune my system and was wondering if you guys had recommendations. Ideally I would like one where i run RCA from my HU to my EQ then my EQ to my amp. I would like to keep the price under 200 dollars but other than that give me a badass one.
Oh and eventually a sub will be going in once finances allow.
When you are able to get subs go with ED.
GIT 'ER DONE!
the 9857 has an AMAZING 5 band in the deck, which will MORE then meet your needs, there is no NEED for an EQ. save your money.
(hold down on the menu button, and scroll to EQ !)

I dont mean any offense but there is nothing ever amazing about an EQ built into a deck .. that's like saying a HU has an amazing amp built in .. and secondly .. who are you to say he doesn't need an EQ?
I personally don't use EQs because I dont like them, but for you to say he doesn't need one is like me saying you don't need a subwoofer ..
you really don't know his listening taste or what he is doing with his sound system
so um help with a good eq =P
o for those of you who do not have an EQ and say they are uncessary
then without any sort of tuning other than amp and treble and bass
how the hell do you get this song to sound good
Dark Tranquility-Lost To Apathy
My system is tuned rather well and for the love of god one of my favorite songs just does not sound good no matter what I do.
So I figure an EQ will help me out wiht that.
what part of the song is it that you dont like? that will help a bunch
the keys on the intro and chorus sound liek complete trash no matter how low the volume is, would it help if i uploaded the song somehwere/?
again complete bull@!#$, this Unit Replaced the 9855, and 9835 from past generations WHICH HAD 5 band parametric EQ's BUILT into the deck, this does not, which is really strange.... AGAIN proof of Alpine Head Units going to the @!#$ter. Sorry I assumed that the successor to the 9855 and 9835 would have such a basic feature. BUT it does seem like it hass a decent amount of EQ like tuning options.... as limited as they are.

so um eq recomendations??
maybe an EQ isn't what your looking for. You shouldn't be burning your music if your looking for good sound quality. ya it sounds decent but will never sound as good as an origional CD. In your case i think it's just the quality of that one song u downloaded.
I have a JBL 22 band trunk eq. There's a few companies that still make some nice eqalizers.

Apparently you havent seen the russian made URAL.
30 band EQ per channel, 6 channels of internal amplification(yuck...) have 7 sets of RCAs, for a 4 way active setup using only the4 headunit. you can EQ your mids and your tweeters seperately.
20-20khz variable crossovers. HP LP and Bandpass.
lifetime upgradable with software updates. Built in RTA, and tone generator.
Pretty awesome headunit.

The new Alpine PDX Units & Theater would probably offer a better price point with a DVD capable unit (Fibre Optic Line Out), I beleive it offers around 17 to 21 bands per channel depending on the amp and Head Unit. Tuning could go on for days.......

how much does the Alpine unit's go for from an authorized dealer with warranty?
The URAL goes for $600 with an MSRP of $750.
Plus the lifetime upgradability is pretty cool. it also has an ATAPI Hard drive.

if this is your first eq. i'd look into something simple like a 13 band eq from the likes of audio control. for an everyday driver you dont really need to spend the money and get a 30+ band eq. its just overkill. not to mention unless you have some serious tuning time in theres a good chance you will hurt the sound allot more then you will help it. an eq is only as good as the person tuning it. and what are your issues with your sound. the majority of it could be install related. for an example. in my mustang that i took to the world finals in usaci sq. i was using a 13 band audio control eq. i just got my system in my sunfire going and right now before tuning (i have a 31 band phoenix gold eq.) it sounds way better then my mustang ever did just because of allot better installation. an eq can only do so much and a poor speaker install may cause the eq to be useless in some frequencies. just some things to consider.
dayusex. it could be the cd itself. allot of companies now are mixing bands cd's to sound best on mediocre systems since thats what the majority of people will be listening to it. its great for the guys with junk systems and oem systems but it kills those of us who want great sound. so it may not be your system. ive got several cd's that just dont sound good in a quality system and its not the systems fault.

Not bad, Although the entry level theater amp and a Alpine DVD Deck (9860) would come in around the same (if multichannel and DVD capabilitys are a must), BUT the URAL unit would be a better way to go in most cases.

getting a 30band eq or anything along that line is pointless w/out n rta....
except i like my ipod control
and can somoene recommend an @!#$ign eq!!!!!!!!!
im keeping the HU
I want an EQ
give me a good one!!!
Its more money, but look at the Cleansweep, by JL audio. it does what youre asking and the quality is astoundingly amazing. I installed one in a friends car, and the improvement in sound quality is amazing. Its a matter of time before i get mine.
He has a pioneer Deck, and all Focal component speakers.
I read up on the cleansweep, it sounds more like an OEM addon product. So when you installed it, you take RCA form HU to the cleansweep then the RCA from cleansweep to amps??
