basicall i want to upgrade my cars sound system...my sunfire came with the 6 speeker option...so its got the 2 tweeders up front as well as the 4 normal speekers....but the Monsoon sound system in my GTI puts my sunfires sound system to shame...so really im just looking for good clean sound that i can crank up and not worry about distorsion and things like that....anagin...not lookin for something crazy....just want it to sound good....so im lookin for what i should do...obviously 4x6 up front and 6x9 in the back but difference between 2 way and 3 way speekers? should i get an amp? obviously a new head unit but what kind of specs should i look for...i have had good experiance with Alpine head units....any help from you car audio guru's would be great
sorry for the long post
Don't do 4x6 in the front. Either do component 6.5" speakers or coaxial if you don't have the money/don't care if it sounds great
6x9s in the back are fine for a low budget, but if you really want a nice sounding stereo, installing a sub with an amp is a must.
Do a few searches to find out which brands to stay away from (Sony Xplod, Audiobahn and Pyramid come to mind) and read the audio FAQ at the top of this forum.
How much are you looking to spend/are you looking to buy online?
Good luck with whatever you do, once you start, you won't be able to stop
i was only gonna go with a sub if i have to...i dont want crazy bass nor do i want to spend the money if i dont have to...
as far as what im lookin to spend....i honestly dont know...never really did this before...so im tryin to find out what i should get and then find prices and see if its even do able
i was looking to buy online and install my self....ive installed head units and speakers b4...never an amp tho....but yea...i was gonna do it my self
Subs don't make crazy bass, unless you want it to.
Mostly what they do is make the music have a lot more 'depth.' (I know I'll probably get in trouble for saying that.
But rather than the music sounding like it's coming from the front and rear windows (like with 4x6 and 6x9s) it sounds like the music is surrounding you. You could just buy a cheap 100WRms amp and you'd get this effect. More bass is just louder. This 'fill' effect happens because bass is omnidirectional, which means when it's playing, the human ear can't tell where it's coming from.
I'd seriously recommend it if you want your car to sound good.
If you DON'T want a sub. I'd recommend switching the front speakers to 6.5" round ones. (Component, which is a separate woofer and tweeter is best) And using a 4 channel amp (Whatever is in your budget) to power those and your rear 6x9s.
Depending on the wattage of the 4channel, you'd basically end up with close to the same sound as your Monsoon car.
P.S. Sound deadening sheets do a lot to increase the bass in your doors.
