amp going into protection mode
Saturday, August 12, 2006 8:31 PM
My system includes a sony headunit, an 1800 watt amplifier made by sound storm, and 2 12" audiobahn 1000 watt subs. I recently have had a local stereo shop install a new capacitor on account of my lights dimming and it all was working fine. I came out of work one day and my amp wouldn't turn on at all. I reset it but it still wasn't getting any power. Today, I rewired everything and had to take out the capacitor because it wasn't working at all. When I wired everything up to the amp, it would work, but I couldn't turn it up even half as loud as I could before without the amp's LED protection mode light turning on and the amp shutting off within about 5 seconds. I really don't know if the amp is almost blown or what is going on. Please help.

I have also turned down all adjust knobs on my amp and the same problem occurs.

id either say blown, or its grounding out somehow.

i checked the wiring twice and everything looks fine. no cuts in the wire or anything. could the gauge be too small? and ive also looked into buying a yellow top optima battery. would it help at all?

might be low voltage................

If you used two different amps (with different power and ground sources I assume) on the same speakers and it happened, I think your impedance is set up too low.

Are the subs DualVoiceCoil or SVC?

And what impedance are the coils as well...

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
