For anybody who has this setup..the Alpine V12 MRD-M1005 amp and 2 12" type r's i am wondering what you have your amp set at to have it sound the best. Tell me your input level...bass eq....crossover frequency and subsonic filter. Alot of my friends have been telling me that my type r's can get alot louder than they are now because the shop that installed them set them softly so they will last for many many years. thanks
The shop set my amp at this..
.2 input level
0db bass equilizer
85hz crossover frequency
15hz subsonic filter
ok for startes the cross over need to be set at what sounds best your you. also are your subs in a ported box if not then dont worrie about the subsonic filter as far is the input level match that with your h/u
It's gonna all depend on what you want it to sound like.
Me personally, I like my crossover frequency to be more near 100ish because I like it to get the "high" bass too so it's not only the low bass.
Ur subsonic filter could prolly be higher, near around 20 but it's prolly good at where its at.
Then other than that, ur gonna have to play with the other settings.
If you wanted it loud, crank the bass eq up - i think it goes to like 12 but be careful and make sure ur not clippin or anything.
The input level I assume is your gain. Thats gonna depend on what headunit you have - so I would read up on how to set ur gain and set it to that.
Me personally, I just set my gain by ear, and against all peoples sayings, use it as a volume knob. But there is a level where you can tell that it starts to sound bad.
Thats all IMO, mostly, and so i'm sure there will be some naysayers (sp). Basically though, as long as you're sure you're not clipping or anything, the type-r's are gonna handle anything that the m1005 is gonna dish out.

I have a sealed box and a alpine cda-9851 cd player sorry i didnt post that before.
and
wizkiddrummer what do you mean by clipping when setting my bass eq up?
Yay for sealed and yay for alpine...imo.
Clipping is bad for ur subs and can ruin them. If I understand it right, and I think I do, clipping is where the amp cant correctly amplify the signal coming from the headunit and so it only gets part of the signal and clips off the rest. And unfortunately, I've never heard a clipping sub so I can't tell you what it sounds like.
I think it comes more into play when you start adjusting ur gain.
Find a tutorial about setting ur gain and most likely it's gonna mention clipping.
