terminal controled by ignition switch

Got a pioneer CD-625 crossover for my gf's car. She doesn't want to change the head unit and only has one set of preouts, so picked up one of these for $20. So now she can run the subs with one amp and the rears and fronts with the other. The unit says to connect the red wire to terminal controlled by ignition switch (12V DC on/off). But then the unit also has a blue remote turn on lead. The red wire has a 4amp inline fuse. Anyone know if I need to conect this to a 12V wire thats activated by the ignition switch or can I just plug it into the fuse block that I'm running my amps off (12V constant source). Being that it has the remote turn on.

it depends where you are wiring your eq. are you going to wire the eq up in the front of the car or the rear?

i have a pioneer 7 band eq and these are the wires i have.

RED = +12V (to a constant 12V DC source
BLUE = 12V switched (this is the trigger for the eq so it is not always on.
Other Blue = Trigger for amp
BLACK = Ground

the way eq's are ment to be wired is up front so you can adjust them. to wire them up front, you hook the 12V red to a constant source (someting wired directly to the battery).

The blue wire that is your trigger for the eq should be hooked up to someting that is triggered. i would hook this up to the trigger wire off of your head unit that turns your amps on.

the other blue wire is your remote turn on that you would run to the trigger of your amp. this wire will turn on your amp when the eq turns on, which will turn on when the car turns on.

the ground, obviously goes to ground to complete the circuit.

now, if you are wiring this thing in the trunk, like i did with mine, all you need is three wires.

12V red goes to the same 12 V constant source, wired straight to the battery. the blue 12V switched still goes to a switched source.
ground still to ground.

theres how mine is wired up. i have tapped everything off of the amplifier.

my 12V red wire is wired up to where my power wire straight from the battery hooks up to my amp. my 12V switched for the eq is hooked up to where my trigger wire from my head unit hooks up to my amp. ground, you guessed it, is hooked up to the ground of my amp. the 4th wire isnt needed because you dont need the eq to turn anything on because since the trigger wire is shared, they bother turn on at the same time. wiring everything in parallel like this makes the wiring easier, but you may not have easy access to the eq to adjust something, so this is pretty much a set it and forget it kind of thing.

to figer out which wire was wich, i had to remove the cover on my eq. there was a (im doing this from memory) PWR, GRND, B+, B-. my B+ was my trigger for the eq and B- would have been the trigger wire comming OUT of my eq to turn on the amp, if i was wiring it in the front.

the bennefit to wiring in the back of the car instead of under the head unit, less RCA wires to run to the back of the car. the down side, not easily accessible to adjust if need be. if this is a cavalier and she is using an aftermarket head unit and it is only a full din size, not the din and a half that takes up the full hole that would be left in the stereo gap, then the eq can be mounted underneath that to take up the extra room.

any other questions, just let me know. hope this helps.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

Thats exactly how I was going to hook it up. Figured there is no point conecting the red to a 12V controled by the ignition switch and having the remote wire. Just wasn't sure If I could just connect the red to constant 12V or if I had to connect it to a12V ignition controlled terninal like the instructions said. I'm hooking it up in the rear just b/c I don't want to pull the dash apart and she doen't care either way.
