Ok first off i know caps suck and all that but.........I have it all planned out..i have a 160 amp alt comming, upgraded big 3 with 1/0, deep cylcle gel cell. Now the amps im using are fusion jonah lomu amps, the 1211d and the big 4 channel..not sure of the watage..the monoblock is 1250wrms and the 4 channel is about 125x4 rms so sitting at about 2000w rms or so.I was thinking a 2 farad cap or a 5 farad would be sufficent to help with light dimming. The reason i ask is i dotn want to runa asecond battery due to wieght problems and such that and room..so would this be good enough? phil
Personally if your worried about weight. dont have a system. And besides, there are many places where you can hide a second battery, though it wont help you with dimming lights.
What size ground wires are you using BTW?
shouldn't need a cap i don't think
upgrade your stock battery under the hood too

i really don't see a cap being necassary with only 1200 watts....but it seems you really want one so i guess get whichever one is prettier

Get like 20 of them. Make sure you get a Steelers cap too, that adds mega db to your system.

It just gets old, every day, someone new asks if they need a cap, and every day, we have to say no. I try to liven things up, that's all
cap? I think you forgot the "r".

If you do decide to use a cap, I'm pretty sure the basic way of figuring is 1 farad per 1000 watts.

My question is this - wysiwig, myself, and probably another handfull of guys on here are running or going to be running 3000+ watts rms and we don't need a cap, so why would anyone else?
i just asked cause in my 95 sunfire with way less power and a better batery, bog 3 and 1/0 wirering i had massive diming..
phil
yeah i got about 1200rms ... plus w/e the headunits rms is but that doesnt matter as much cuz its like less than 100-110...so like 1300 rms~ and i got massive dimming too, i have this distribution block for the wires and it shows the source voltage and on heavy bass hits my voltage goes from like 14.7 or around there down to the 12's sometimes...i have the big three as well, so i thought i needed a ho alternator, but if like wysiwyg and lanman and w/e are runnin 3kw+, how do u not get dimming when usin the stock alternator?? would like...say...a yellowtop battery help with my problem or what do u guys think...cuz i got just a regular crappy battery
wysiwyg wrote:i would say they bang, they don't really pound so much. but if
you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
Yellow top most definitely. Both wysiwig and myself had 2 batteries and no problems.

you can't really count your headunit and "musical" amps...your sub amp is the one sucking all the power.
I'd try running two batteries and see where that gets you. make sure they are decent size, over or close to 1,000 cca i'd say.

I love the JBO...
You guys don't have to beat him up so hard... A LOT of people have been told the 1F per 1000W rule, including me. That's the only reason I bought the one I have...
Se what everyone is missin gis i didnt want to runa second battery...that was the whole issue....i wanted to do the big 3,beter battery and 160 amp alt and then use acap to help fill in the lulls but not use the extra battery..to save money and maybe some wieght..phil
For the same price as a cap you can have a 2nd battery. And a cap isn't going to help in this situation.
GET A BATCAP THEN!

I got mine for 20$ on ebay.
New battery is over 100$.
-Seth
New battery is going to be around 85 bucks at wal-mart (yellow top) cap is going to be however much, then when it doesn't work, it'll be a waste of 20 bucks.
