ok i want to put an aftermarket head unit in my car...my only problem is that when i went down to buy one...i bought the stereo and am very well knowledged in audio so i brought it home and noticed that the wiring harness wouldnt work. i went back to the store where i bought it and they said i need a whole new harness for the CAR...i have a 2001 z24 by the way..and i wanted to know if there is anyway to bypass having to tear out my carpet and install a whole new harness...thanks

It's not the actual harness that you need, what they mean is an adaptor to plug onto the stock radio plug which will allow you to hook up the aftermarket radio to the stock wiring. For your 01 they will try to sell you a door chime module, but if you don't mind losing the chimes you don't need it, you'll just have to run an accessory power wire to an ignition circuit. Read the sticky for more info.

well do you know of a place that i could find an adaptor....cause i bought the harness that you have to buy to hook up the after market deck to...then it plugs into the stock wiring plug...thats what im saying is that didnt work because there is things in the stock plug stopping it from plugging in

Any audio shop will have the right harness adaptor. I'm not sure what you mean there's something in the way. The adaptor gets wired to the plug that goes into the radio. One end plugs into the radio, the other into the stock plug.

The only other thing you will need to do is run a wire from the red ignition wire on the radio harness to and ignition circuit on the car. Most people go to the fuse box and tap to a fuse such as the windshield wipers, I went right to the accessory wire in the ignition harness. Like I said for more info on all that read the sticky, it had a lot of info in it.

You don't even have to hoook up the stock radio witht he erlocation harness. Just get the 15 buck metra harness and then hook the red power wire from the wiring harness to a switched 12v source and you're good to go man.
