OK i need to know the size of resistor to take 12 volts down to 2 volts. I would really appreciate any help. Thnx

what are you hooking up? We need to see how many watts you're trying to dissipate.
ie. an LED you could make do with a 5 watt cheapie from radio shack
Something more... umm... powerful? would need the expensive kind of resistor:
<insert pic here... I couldn't find one

it is a led. it says it will take up to 2.2 volts. I used to know how to figure this stuff out, but i forget how to.

Ah, perfect.. LEDs are low power
math time!!
Ok, Ohm's Law... V=IR where V = voltage (or drop, in this case).. I = current (amps).. R = resistance (of the resistor you want to use).
Also, P = VI...
And unfortunately, that's about all I can remember right now... I know you have to substitute something in somewhere, and then give it the voltage drop... which is 12.5 volts or so (car is 14.5 volts when running? I'm guessing... measure your car!).
But I'm tired and can't think. Someone smart (or awake) will chime in next and just tell you which resistor to use
Can't just go buy a 12 volt LED?
