I do, honestly. I'm going crazy about SQ, but at the same time I realize that I have to turn up the volume more and more to enjoy my music, that sometimes my hears hurt, and that I now find it harder to understand, say, people talking in a noisy restaurant or in a similar situation.
According to my girlfriend, who is currently doing her master in speak language patholody and audiology, these are the first symptoms to an hearing deffiency ( dunno if it's the correct term, english isn't my primary language). And they are more and more widespread among 20-30yrs old people than ever before. Remember, hearing = nervous cells, nervous cells = don't grow back once they die or get "burned off".
Do you feel like you're damaging your hearing with your mega-spl systems and all?
I think that, even though I don't have a setup to blow windows or anything, I'm actually hurting my hearing.
Anyone out there have realized this and did something to stop the damages?
Just feeling curious and a little overwhelmed at the same time, I can't believe that the thing I,ve spent so many $$ and hours on will be making me deaf eventually.
I realized this and now make a concious(sp) effort not to crank the music loud all the time. hearing is a funny thing, it will recover pretty well from short exsposure and brief damage, but long drawn out exsposure (low BASS is horrible on hearing) almost never gets better. Working around the flight line at work and doing hearing conservation there with a hearing test kinda did it for me (10% hearing loss on the right side like 5% on the other)

You're right Grimor about the exposure.
And about the low bass thing: Our hears are less sensitive to low frenquency, so we tend to crank them up more than the highs, PLUS, as the low frequencies receptors are deeper/farther in the cochlea ( the piece that looks like a nautilus and that contains all the nervous receptors ), there are no pain sensors there, that's why low frenquencies don't hurt the hears as much pain-wise, but they do as much damage than any other frequencies. And don't forget that we begin to loose the high frenquencies first, even if we're exposed more to bass than highs.
yes, but not from bass........damned gunshots while in a vehicle, makes that noise so damned loud, and i lost my earplugs that day

is someone talking? did someone call my name??
..ah ahh AHHHHH!!
Ive lost 18% in my left ear and close to 15% in my right ear

. Its nothing to really brag about though. I was young and dumb, street beat my L5's fo rmonths as loud as they would go. Between that and working in a large warehouse with a production line that never quits... I constantly hear ringing in my ears, even as I am typing this. If you want your music to sound loud ask yourself why? So everyone else can hear it? If thats all you want, buy some earplugs, then crank it. Its not worth it though.
i get ringing in my right ear sometimes, and i no longer have my speakers so im sure thats a good thing
i cant hear for @!#$. but i have always been that way, so screw it
I turned it down a long time ago.... I can hear fine.
I used to think I was cool, driving around with the music all loud and bumpin....
then I grew up
Sometimes I find it harder to hear on the telephone or in places like a restaraunt. I only crank my music once in a while to show off or whatever, I normally keep it at a pretty moderate to low level when driving. I keep my subs on for sound quality, but it's not blasting and just sounds good, not overwhelming. 15 is the highest volume setting on my deck and I normally keep it at around 7 or 8 when driving. Hope that gives you a good idea on what to do.
HUH?
Actually, do to numerous ear infections as a child, I DO have a hearing loss. about 7% last time it was tested... 20 years or so ago.
I dont like loud music at all, so im glad that i dont have a huge bumpin audio system. But a lot of the "Hearing Loss" you recieve is actually psychological. I studied it in my College class, very interesting stuff. The most fun stuff is Bone Conduction hearing. You should try it sometime.
