Yellowtop vs. Bluetop
Saturday, October 22, 2005 3:48 PM
i used to think they were the same battery, just with marine style posts on the marine batt, but at while looking at the spec sheet i noticed that the yellow offers the D34/78(750 cranking amps) as its biggest batt, while the Bluetop offers the D31M(900 cranking Amps). Unless the D31M is the same battery as the Batt that appear under "Commercial"... the D31A and the D31T(whatst he difference between these two? they have the same specs)

now i'm fairly certain that the D31M wouldnt fit under the hood(its an rsx-s, maybe it will..doubt it.), but the other two or three batteries i want to put in the trunk would definatly fit. Blue definatly matches with the blue/silver theme i have planned for the car.

thanks in advance

not true, yellowstops are hybrids two. as far as i know, the only difference between the blue and the yellow is that the blue has marine style posts. my question was to the biggest sizes available.

from what ive heard, the only difference between all the different optimas is the power they have while the car is OFF, when its running they perform the same.

when your car is running you shouldn't be drawing from your bat much at all if any. your Alt handles the running power demands.

Optima batteries are pointless. The whole point to optima batteries is to eliminate corrosion. Optima batteries have a gel, while regular batteries have the typical liquid acid. The gel cannot leak through the terminals as easy, hence less corrosion. Dont waste your money on these batteries and go grab yourself an Insterstate battery. If your willing to dish out that much cash on an optima, the insterstate should be no problem.

Eh? I use an optima for the deep cycle feature.... nothing to do with corrosion.

you're wrong, optima batteries are not GEL types.

what is the website for optima batteries?? i'm also looking to buy one.

http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/

scroll down to the yellow section. the difference seems to be the 31T has top studs while the 31A has top posts. I don't konw what that means though.

deep cycle = longer life without use

Actually, they are refered to as "deep cycle" batteries because they can be drained, or "deep cycled" many more times than a standard battery and still retain a full charge when they are recharged. Nothing to do with how long they hold a charge without being used. All batteries slowly lose their charge if they sit.

If So why is it my brand new OEM style acid core batt. would only run my 2 Viair 450's, 2 rockford 1200w amps, all the LCDs and neon and strobes for about 30 min max where my fully charged yellowtop will run for nearly 8 hours no problem?

Also Im not shure what style yellowtop I have but it has top posts and side mounts, I use both...

Optima's are actually made by Interstate.

I bought my red top from an Interstate guy that sells blemished batteries and thats what he told me.

and interstate is actually owned by johnson and johnson. i work with a guy that used to work for interstate. most @!#$ about batteries is marketing.

deep cycle batteries are the slowest charging - and discharging (ie. transient response) type of battery.

I usually try to avoid using them. I only have them in my car now because i already owned them..so i wasn't gonna go buy all new batteries, lol.
