ODB-II Scantool for our cars?

just curious if any of you guys have any information on the 04 cavalier's ODB2 interface.. I know there are 3 or more protocols, (ELM/etc)

I'd like to get an adapter (serial or USB) to plug into a laptop or computer, and don't want to pay hundreds of dollars... anyone know where to get one ?

thanks for any info!

I saw one at Sears the other day for $100 or so. Not listed on their site, but it was an OBD2 interface w/ USB cable. Didn't check if it worked for Cavi's/Fires. More so just saw it on my trip to get a brake cylinder honer.

you can make a cable with a db9 connector that will plug into the serial port of a computer. instructions are somewhere online. from that point its just a matter of getting some software
