on my 2001 cavi, the front speakers have a light green and a dark green wire, which is positive and which one is negative??
also, on my new speakers i got a pair of wires:
one pair is white>black stripe: and solid white
the other pair is: grey>black stripe and solid grey
which one's do i use??

Left Front (-) Gray
Right Front (+) Light Green
Right Front (-) Dark Green
as for the wires that came with the speakers. it doesn't matter which one you use for positive or negative. they are marked with a stripe so you don't get them crossed.

see, i have to cut the factory harness off, and twist in the wires that came with the speakers, so there is no right way or wrong way to hook them up then?

You have to hook up the positive wire of the speaker to the positive from the radio and the same for the negative. You can't just pick a wire from the speaker... it has to be the right one.

ok...what i meant was this.
the wires that came with your new speakers. it does not matter WHICH wire you use. pick either the striped one, or the solid one as the positive wire. the only reason they are marked is so you don't cross them when hooking them up.
you DO have to hook the stock positive to the positive side of the speaker still.
