Engine Year - Third Generation Forum

I have a 2.2 ecotec engine in my new sandrail and would like to verify the year of the engine. Does anyone know how to do that?

Give us the partial vin from the block, we'll see if we can reverse it...

Here is what I read off of the oil filter housing

Hmm... that doesn't make sense to me.

The VIN derivative is 9 digits, should be a 1 or 2 to start off (1 = chev, 2 = pontiac), then the second digit is the year (3 = 2003, 4 = 2004, 5 = 2005), the third is the assembly plant (M = Lansing, MI; 7 or 8 = Lordstown, OH; S = Mexico), the 4-9 digits are the plant sequence number and match the last 6 digits of the VIN of the car it came out of.

See if there's other numbers laser etched or hand stamped into the block anywhere...?
