so i was trying to check my codes today with my scaner and the damn thing won't read my car? (97 2.2l pacesetter header 2.5 exshaust ) tried the scanner on my gf sunfire same motor no extras and it read just fine? tried again on mine and it won't even power the scanner? any ideas?
and i just relised i should have moved this to the tunning section sorry
ok need to bring this back....
checked this out yesterday and the fuse to the cig ligher is good, all wiring looks right ...
but the computer reader under the dash and the cig lighter doesn't work.
what I have done that might have caused it was switch the dash peice from around radio but no wires had to be cut or changed for that.
I also removed the stock steering wheel and replaced it with a momo steering wheel in which i had to remove the air back?
I needed to do my emissons like yesterday so any advised is much thanked
anyone have anything? its killing me; they will pull my registration soon cause i haven't been able to get the emissions done due to this F*&^ing computer;
updates in trouble shooting :
Removed computer from car left out for a while. placed back in car, check engine light came off, (but came back on after some driving) and the computer reader (or what ever you call it) still isn't being read, so i check the scanner again and it works just fine, ran down to autozone tried there scanners no good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

grounds are good and I don't have power at all to the cigarate lighter.
did you just look at the fuse or have you tried a new one in it's spot? sometimes they look fine but are still blown.

FWIW my wife's car was throwing a CEL and had an erratic idle, but I never could pull the code. Ended up being the ECM.
