where can i get a 3.1 and can i use the same tranny

3100 and 3400 have the same trans bolt pattern (difference mainly is bore/stroke/heads). So the same trans will work with the 3100 as the 3400

Only cars I know of that has a 3100 is the Chevy Malibu and Chevy Corsica (can't say what years though). That's a list I never compiled.

yes, your 2.2 trans will work, please check the sticky for some tips / FAQ's on mechanical.

Got mine from Ebay for $800 complete engine with all accesories MAF, wire harness and PCM. Rad and cooling fans as well. 88000 Miles. Had to drive 6 hours to get it tho lol. But well worth it!

As for the 3100's, they are available in the small port form, which I wouldn't suggest, from Corsicas, 94-98 Grand Ams, Grand Prix, Luminas, Monte Carlos, Berettas.

The newer 3100, which is very close in power to the 3400, you can get them from Grand Prix, Buick Century, Buick Regal, Monte Carlo, and a few others I'm forgetting.

Bottom line is that there are tons of them out there. The only thing to watch out for is the ones from the Torrent/Equinox, and one of the minivans, which I can't remember, because they have a completely different intake manifold, which is much taller, and I'm pretty sure that it will not clear the hood on a J-body, plus the TB is on the passenger side instead of the drivers side.

You will find more 3100s than 3400s btw. Dont settle for a 3100 tho. Keep looking to u find a 3400!!!

You do realize that the 2000+ 3100 is barely less power than the 3400, right?

LG8 (00+ 3100) 175HP 195TQ
LA1 (3400) 185HP 210TQ

If the price is right, no reason not to take a 3100 as long as it's the large port.
