i am still havig problems with my 98 cavalier dirt track car.
it will run for about a second and shut down.
if i try to restart the motor, it will not start but if i turn the key off and try again it will start and then die out again.
the FUEL PUMP does NOT shut off because i have it wired onto another switch because my rules make me.
i replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the crankshaft sensor with no luck.
i have also removed the key lock mechanisiam becuase i thought that was the problem but i ended up destroying it.
I THINK that the security system is acting up. ive tried to reset the key by leaving it on for 11 mins and then shutting it off and trying again but it doesnt work
so does anyone know how to bypass the theft loc thing?
i mean people steal these things all the time but i still cant figure it out. lol!

If you do a search you will find your answer....but if I can remember correctly,
get in the car, start it and wait for it to die. Then don't do anything for about 10 to 15 minuts (the time you have to wait is what I cant remember for sure so hopefully someone else remembers for sure). Dont touch anything or even open the door, then start it again. repeat the proccess until the cars keeps running. It can take awhile so get confortable.
You need to use the stock key and lock cylinder, and the instrument cluster.
the lock cylinder plugs into the i/c and communicates the proper " R-code" to the PCM.
I'm guessing you have stripped the car of most items
you will need power to the i/c A3,A4
ground B6,B9
serial data line (UART) circuit(800) A2 to C100 connector pin G9 or pcm C1-14 (blue)
ground circuit (451) B1 to C100 connector pin H8 or pcm C1-18 (blue)
with the car on.. cut the wire with the strip on it, i dont know tho since u say u cant even start the car

i partially have the instrument cluster. if i go and buy a new key and lock cylinder and have the car relearn the key, will that work?
the car ran a few weeks ago. its been running fine all season and then one friday i could not get it started to put it on the trailer and go to the track.

Is this something new that I havent heard of.
When you shut it back off and try to restart it with the cut wire doesnt it go into theft mode.
Ryan, the time is the time it takes the theft light to turn out, then turn the key off, then on, then try to start it.
3 times, it should stay running on the 4th try. It should take no longer than 45min to do this. If your theft light doesnt tun out in the waiting period then you have another problem. Also You gotta have the correct key and lock cylinder installed. Last time I bought one It was around $150 for a key and cylinder.

a friend of mine did this on his wifes 03 cavi when he put in a remote starter, worked perfect, only down side is it needs to be connected again if the battery is disconnected and reconnected, so he just put in a momentary switch and all was well, Seeing the bypass on my starter is fubar im thinking about trying it myself

The theft system requires the PCM, Cluster, and the Key cylinder to work. Only other thing I can think of is being able to HPTuners it out. But that's a good sized investment.\
I have a spare key and ignition if you need it
Do you still have the key and ignition , how much do you want for it? What year does it fit? I need the 98-02 I believe. Thanks
ok i replaced the key cylinder and ignition switch and i still have the same issue. im going to change the fuel flilter tomorro just to be sure.

ok guys i need some more idea. i replaced the stock gas tank and pump with a RCI fuel cell and MSD High Pressure fuel pump. i plumbed everything up and i still have the same exact problem. i also went to a chevy dealer and they said that if i learned the key then its either a fuel problem or an issue with the cluster.
