Going to look at a 2000 Z24 with a 2.4 Quad. Guys has the waterpump has a crack in it. Sort of odd. Has anyone encountered that? Also any known problems with the 2000 model? What year had rod bearing problems? '98? Thanks in advance.

Dude there's many red flags in your post. A 2000 2.4 Quad does not exist to my knowledge? Are you asking if the waterpump has a crack? Or are you telling us it has a crack and why? I know these cars eventually will require a waterpump replacement as do many cars. It's just bothersome and expensive to replace due to it's location. If this is info you are hearing from the seller I would walk in the other direction.
A 2000 Z24 with a 2.4 doesn't exsist???
No, what I'm saying is he said he looked at the pump and it has a crack in it therefore leaking water. I've never encountered that. Most i've replaced leak out the weep hole. I changed a few and know it's a pretty big job, but if the deal is right it's worth the repair. I was just wondering if anyone has encountered a crack in the pump?
It's a 2000 Z24 2.4 Vin T
The 2.4 part we all get i.e. Z24. It's the "Quad" part you referred to in your first post that confused me. The only motor I've heard associated with the Quad reference was the 2.3 Quad 4. I believe this was put into the J's in the mid 90's not 2000. As for the pump, I am with you on the leak from an eventual gasket wear not an actual crack?
The Layman still refers to the 2.4L LD9 as a quad, but "technically" it is not.
I say tell the guy/gal selling you the motor to deduct 500 for the waterpump, since that is half of what a shop will charge you. Then pay the $100 or so for the pump and replace it yourself.
Every year for the 2.4L had bearing problems (96-02). The problem is the oil pump spins too fast, and doesn't supply enough oil to the rod bearings as the RPM's go over 5500.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
yea, back when i worked at the dealership in the late 80's early 90's they were all referred to as "quad" sorry for the confusion. its a 2000 z24 with 85000 miles decent shape. i can get it for 2500.00
Are they still having head gasket troubles?
cool! I'm either going to buy the Z24 or turbo my 2000 2200... decisions decisions...
my 97 didnt have any rod problems , i know more 99's that had problems over any other year
i havent know any 2.4 to have head gasket issues
For 2500 I would go for it, even if u had to spend a nother 500-600 on the water pump thats still a good deal.
