Serching for a GM part #. PLEASE HELP?
Saturday, December 23, 2006 10:26 AM
On cavaliers their are 2 support brackets underneith the engine and trans axle. They became missing on the 100,000+ miles of the car's life. I went to the dealer this morning looking for a quote of them and, we have trouble varifing the corect part with the description their computer shows and explains.

Their supports braces that run from the radiator support bracket to a frame support on the inside of the wheels. Also if this will help explain of what I'm referring to; If you drive over a parking curb they take some damage from that.

I'd like to have a part name and part number if someone knows about them.

Thanks everyone

Sorry can not help with a part number but would your local auto wrecker not have those and the price would be better than new from GM.

Thats what the dealership told me. I haven't made it to the body shop yet so, I thought I'd try here.

You're talking about the sitffening brace. It's only on the drivers side. There's nothing on the other side.

I know for sure that my 2000 model had one on both sides. The 1998 model had none.

If it makes a difference. The 2000 is a 5 speed. The 1998 is an auto. But is the term "stiffening brace" used in GM parts computer to look up the part?

If you're talking about the things that connect to the front part of the subframe.... on the driver's side, there's a long metal bar that goes forward to the rad support. That's GM part # 2259012, and it's the same on all J-cars from 95-05. On the passenger's side, there's a short "dogbone" shaped thing that connects to the lower engine bracket. It's called the 'strut' and it's part # 22145447 on a manual trans, # 22174912 on an automatic.

There is no bar that goes forward from the passenger side to the rad support - there isn't even a hole on the rad support to put on in. I've got it all sitting here, and I'm very certain I've never seen a passenger side bar that comes forward. Ever.

the long one (as you're talking about) is only the drivers side.
