not even 200 miles to a tank
Saturday, March 25, 2006 11:16 PM
last couple trips to the gas station ive been gettin between 180- 200 miles to a full tank. ive been babying the car and the need seems to drop very quickly. the car seems to be running fine though and no leakage. is there a problem with my fuel sending unit or a mechanical problem.

when was the last time you changed your air filter? How about your fuel filter? how many miles are on it? What kind of driving do you do? How many gallons do you put in when you fill it?

all together the car has 2600 miles on it. it pretty much sat in the driveway for a couple of years. last time the air filter was changed was when i put on the intake which was over the summer. the intake has only 1000 miles on it. my driving is from home to school and to work which is about an 8 mile round trip on nonhighway roads. im not sure how much gas it took last time i filled it up but when i went to work my gas light was on, but when i got out of work and started it up before getting gas the light was off. Also lately the needle seems to like to move around alot.

How many gallons are you putting in it when you fill up (from almost empty)? Could be an issue with your fuel gauge not reading correctly.

Or you're running seriously too rich....

not to jack the thread.... my gas gauge doesnt work anymore... well, doesnt work correctly. so I HAVE to track my miles. luckliy i started to do that to find my mpg since i drive 90miles a day. I've been getting 300-340. I was at 345 last week and filled up.... $2.45 per gallon, i spent $31 and put 13 some gallons in it.
my main question is how hard is it to put a new gauge sensor in?

you could have a faulty sensor as well.... poss. showing you have less fuel then you actually do. im not sure!

whats our tank size?

well, my input, nay help, might not.

I Used to get an average of 150-200 MPT, then i did my TB moddification and now run about 250 mpt. Its still low but its getting better. I know soon ill start running the acetone trick again and see how much better i can get.

hmmm, I'm getting an average of 375MPT, on the HO Quad. I'd get the fuel system fully checked, then work on the rest of the car, spark, intake, and exhaust.

if it sat that long it may need the fuel system cleaned.

What the hell? are you guys kidding? I get about 200 also. I thought it was just junk. Maybe something is wrong with my sender too? I got a 96 2.4. What should I be running? It has an all new ignition, so I can't see that being the problem.

the 2.4 should be getting like 32 or so highway. if you guys drive ONLY in town, then 200 may be just about right, but that's in like traffic jams and stop lights every 50 feet.

Yeah I average out at around 225. Lots of city driving.

my trip consists of basically 35 miles on the highway going 75mph and a few stoplights/signs.... then the same on the way back

how much would an 2.25 exhaust help? intake? or with they hurt it more?

ive noticed better mileage with intake and exhaust work, as long as i keep my lead foot in check

I'm getting close to 300 miles out of each tank.... and that's with a fairly modded 2.4L with GM supercharger. But a tank costs me more tho.... 94 octane.

my moms Z24 4spd

50L = 350km = 14L/100km
average city

driving it on high way 120-160km/h
45L = 500km = 9L/100km

the "gauge sensor" would be fuel sending unit i believe and you have to drop the tank

i get like 330-350city and close to 400highway on my 96 auto with 178k miles on it

what kind of oil are you using whens the last time you had it changed? im aware of the low miles but it also has a time frame on it too

With my Eco I'm adveraging about 27 MPG.

I've got a CAI, 60mm TB, Header & 2.25 ehaust.

Then again i do mostly Highway at 60 - 65... I don't do very much city driving since my house, work and school are all within a mile of a freeway.

yea im pretty sure my 2200 tank is 15 gallons, but 14 would be pretty close too. i only get about 18 mpg but like most of us, i drive it like a madman. And my gas guage is definitely screwed up and my low gas light doesnt work anymore.

In my '03 Eco 5sp i get 350 / tank in the city and 420 / tank highway with about 12-13 gallons. I don't run mine to "E", but fairly good milage.

Damn guys, I go easily over 400 miles per tank (around 13.5 gallons per fill). All my driving is 35mph-55-mph. And only one stop light for my 24 mile commute to work. But that 400 miles is on my brute-force OHV.

2002 cavalier with a 2.4 auto.

i get roughly 290-300 miles per tank at about 27-28MPG.

my mileage dropped significantly about a month ago. i changed my fuel filter and cleaned the KN filter and it went right back up.

a few months before that, i dropped from 27mpg down to 20 mpg. i had a leak in the fuel pressure regulator. it didn't leak while idling so i couldn't see it when i popped the hood. one day after about a 30 minute drive i pulled into the garage and smelled gas. popped the hood and couldn't see where it was leaking from. i just started feeling things and the lower hose to the fuel pressure regulator was damp and smelled like gas. i replaced the regulator and the orings and gas mileage went back up.

the fuel pressure regulator kit is a GM specific part (so says autozone, kragen, and pep boys). if i remember correctly, it was like 60 bucks.
