Wilwood front brakes, excessive brake dust?
Thursday, July 22, 2010 9:48 AM
This is for anyone with the wilwood front conversion. Im gettimg ALOT of brake dust. And when I say alot, I mean Im cleaning my rims every 3-4 days because they are caked with it. I do put on apporximately 100-150km a day, but I still shouldnt be getting this much.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I don't drive mine as often as you but I've never noticed any bad brake dust from them.

change to a different pad compound.

Its the pad compound. Wilwood actually suggested one for me when i replaced mine that doesnt dust as much. Its not bad, just wilwood makes their pads to stop ur car, and doesnt worry about the dust they create. I think I have the Q compound. Ill check for sure this weekend.

Mine were pretty bad with Wilwood pads. I switched to EBC red's, and the dust has cut down a lot

Most likely he had pads on there that would stop his car since he auto crossed the GTC and had a beast of a car for the silver one. Dunno which one it came off of but I am sure he didnt care of brake dust and wanted the better stopping power. Just change out the pads and call it a day

No dust problems at all so far with my Wilwood setup.
Matter of fact, little to no dust compared to the rear disc conversion with the EBC red pads. The rims were coated with dust like I've never seen so I may be out to change the pads to something else.
If I can't go a hundred miles and have that much dust, then it's time for a pad change.

But with the Wilwoods, little to no dust.
Also make sure that your using the shims to center the rotor to the pads. If there's any kind of rub or off center with the rotor/ caliper alignment, you're going to have excessive dust issues too.

Good luck with it and let us know what you come up with.

That might also be an issue. I used the same shims that he had on his knuckles and put them on my knuckes. I will check when I get my car in the air this week.

ive put about 30-40k on them , and the centerlines are still spotless , and that is daily driven , and still on the original pads from the kit
