How far to drop car?

Just wondering what a comfortable drop would be. I have 16'' stock rims, and going to get some 225/40 tires on them, i have ALOT of wheel space in the rear, more than the front. Seein what you guys are dropping, thanks.

If I drop my 01 Sunfire about 1.8 inches or so would I need a camber kit or anything else besides the springs?

Camber kits are unneeded for J-bodies. My camber doesnt change at all with my airride.

in theory... springs would drop ur car, and yes, it would drive...

would it be safe? no
would your struts blow? yes
would you be in for a lot of work in the near future? yes

in reality u need lowering struts and springs to lower your car, and yes, new tires would be a bonus

Can someone PLEASE tell me how low is enough to cause extremely early axle replacing. Example, i want to daily drive with a 3.7 inch drop with 205/55/16"s (2 3/4" between rim and fender). PM me, thanks in advance guys.

camber 'kits' dont just serve that purpose. they also allow you to place camber in on purpose to get the car to handle better.

i dont know why this is such a common mis-conception.

TO OP: lower it til the control arms are parallel to the ground.

.

If someone was that serious about handling to dial in alittle negative camber i would image that they would be running camber plate mounts.
