Custom Alumium Tie Bar- Zyaaaaaaa's
Thursday, July 02, 2009 3:04 PM
Well once in a blue moon I get someone that wants something special. Brad came to me and asked if I could make an aluminum tie bar that would be a little more flashy than others. So I build him a pretty solid piece. The bar is 1.25 " hex tubing with two massive heim joints. Then I added a special plate that gets OEM right in the middle. Brad let me know what you think man.

Bar was a little dirty.

Haven't had time to mount it up. Plan is to mock it up to be 100% sure this weekend and send it to get powder coated. but I did measure it and it measured under 46" so I should be good considering it needed to be 46" to be dead on. Thanks

Phil, I did not copy anyone's design, last time I checked you did not have a welded plate in the middle.

Nothing wrong with it but after all the @!#$ I had to deal with to try to get my steel one to fit and be able to install it.. he changes it.. lol, i wouldn't have minded a aluminum coming back to me after the 2 times i had to ship mine back.

Damn Brad, you think you're special?
And it's aluminum now too.
Damn dude, you're spoiled.
Looks good though and fits you perfectly.
Now put that bad boy on the car and stop collecting parts already.
Oh and I'm finally sending you that zig zag part next week to ya.

My only questions are where are the jam nuts, and did you use both RH thread or LH and RH threads?

Get your bar yet brad? I got mine installed finally after a little over 2 months of sending it back twice, painting it twice, having to buy new heim joints and roughly $120 later. I can't give anyone a honest review. I put it on, drove it to some nice triple S roads and on the way there, every bump I hit I was getting this nasty clunk sound from underneath the rear.. Went back to the shop, jacked up the ass, nothing was rubbing. Grabbed the bar and twisted it and it has a little back and forth twist action through the joints, allowing it to hit the axle making a slight noise but that wasn't what i was hearing.. Removed the bar and seen my paint, marks powder coat rubbed away to bare metal.. exhaust is hitting.. Common problem i see on 03+ ls sports, the muffler/exhaust sags and hangs like 1-2" lower.. well that was allowing the exhaust to bounce around and causing me to rub.. So sadly its back off till i can get the exhaust fixed and i don't really want to @!#$ with it anymore.. Through the s roads I cant say i felt much difference.. maybe if i was hardcore, auto crossing, d specs at full hard, going faster and tighter turns i could notice a difference but I didn't with what I did so I just put it with all my other parts and will possibly get to it someday if it doesn't get sold first.

With the lowered cars, you need to move the bar to up a little to under the shocks. With a lowered car the bar will hit the exhaust.

^^^ yup. this is why i wanted mine in misnblu's location.

i already have used a tie bar for years but it runs accross at the lower strut bolts and smacked my 2.25" exhaust regularly. really the only reason i switched.

PFFT secret cams?! pm me if you want a real upgrade.

the bar i made for mine hits my fuel cell so i had to lower the bar down, not many j's have that problem though
