anyone wanna point me in a direction. im trading off my jimmy for an 02 cavy so i wanna do something fun and entertaining with the 96. its lived a great life and needs reborn. i've seen the rear wheel drive cavalier dragsters at the track and ive seen the v6 swaps done but never a baja cavy. i was thinking maybe looking at the baja bug suspension and working from there. first thing i know is ill need some long travel shocks for it.

I would think you will need to increase the wheel wells or get rid of them for the longer travel. As well since the car is a unibody doing so would I believe weaken it so you would have to build either a very large and complicated roll cage or practically a new frame. If thats the case I would just build a baja or some other tuck platform.

Although my fire was pretty strong for the crap I put it through and i can see the fun and hilarious stares from people.

Fitting a long-travel suspension to a J would be a royal PITA...
You would have to build a tube frame front to back (for strength as much as mounting points), and as stated, the fenders would have to be opened WAAAAYY up.
