I was wondering if there was a difference in suspension parts between the base model 04 and the LS model 04? I know that the LS has the upgraded rims/lower profile tires that add better cornering but I was wondering if there was any other differences that would make it worth while to buy an LS compared to a base model?
base model usually doesnt have sway bars. other than that. thats really about it.
unless it's the 4-door, most 4-doors I've seen have a front sway bar.

note i said USUALLY. but. i think its the 1sv model that doesnt have it
I believe that the LS also had a welded in rear sway bar.

K, so it wouldn't be a bad idea of saving myself about 700 and buying a base model 04 then?
if that is the only true difference then yea.

With 700 dollars you could do alot to improve the suspension. Like poly bushings aluminum control arms, k brace, strut bars, better tires rear tie bar and sway bars with poly bushings. Of course a good set of springs and shocks are the biggest ticket but you wouldnt have alot left over.
However what are the differences of the two cars. The engine and how many miles are on both the shape of both bodies the interior and what options plus what do you want to do with it.

03+ all models have sway bars
I'm looking at a 04 base model that has 64,000 miles on it for $4500 or a LS which has 82,000 miles and $5200, both are in pretty much perfect condition, the LS has just about every available option, and the base has a moon/sun roof, also knowing that the base model weighs roughly 100lbs lighter than the LS and I don't mind having to roll down the window by hand, I'm leaning towards the base model. And if anyone has input on the vehicle that would be appreciated, I've owned every gen of the cavaliers except the 2003-2004, and I have to say that the performance has done nothing but increase, I'm just wondering if the new gen cavaliers are worth the perches?
According to the sticky, all 03+ suspension components are the same. Pre-2003 base models did not have a front sway bar (as opposed to LS sport/Z24 models)
Agreed with others here - with 700 dollars you could greatly improve on any stock components. Addco front and rear sway bars, which are 1" in diameter, could be had for under 300 dollars, or a prokit/KYB agx set up could be had for about 500-600 dollars.
Over time I would love to have the power of the LS. Trust me! Leaning over while driving to roll down the window is just so much fun though. So do what you want.
the thing to ask yourself is the LSS going to be enough or are you going to mod the suspension?
if your planning on modding than just buy the base model. your going to be upgrading everything the LSS has better over the base anyways.
Needing 2.3 oil pump stuff? PM me...
03+ Ls sports had a stiffer rear axle (welded in sway bar), but like stated, a after market sway bar more than makes up for it.
A base model is also lighter than an ls sport by around 100 or 200 lbs, which does make a difference if your strictly looking at performance.
Or you could find a base model with the sport suspension (fe2) and get better handling and less weight.
Try talking them down a little too. When i bought my base model 04 the dealer wanted $4900, and after haggling them for 2 weeks they finally sold it to me for $3800 I just was picking on the car, saying look at this it has hubcaps, no power mirrors or locks, no cruise. So try talking them down a little, it does work!
Isn't the only difference in the base model and the ls is power windows and door locks. I am 90% sure that is the different. Pretty sure all have the same suspension setup.
