I have a 97 Cavalier with a 2.2, I'm looking for a larger sway bar for the front, my current one is 17mm and I have one i took out of my turbo bird that is 28mm and it looks to be the same shape.
Anyone ever put a second gen sway bar into a third gen?
Also I was looking at the sway bar and theres no way to remove it without droping the subframe a few inches, is it possible to do it without removing the subframe? any tips on droping the subframe. It looks pretty strait foreward and I would have done it already if I didnt have to disconnect the streering shaft from the rack to do it.
How big is a third gen Z24 or sunfire GT sway bar?
thanks
listening

****kinda like the 3rd gen is still a 3rd gen from 95-04, but have series 1 (95-99), series 2 (00-02), and series 3 (03-04).... the suspension of "FE2" has a series 1 (00-02) and series 2 (03-04) ....the 2000 - 2002cars still run FE2 style 22mm front bars, the 03+ cars just have a 2mm upgrade.******

I went to the local Chevy Parts Department today, and got a list of parts I'll need to install an FE2 bar on my FE0 Cavalier ... Here's the list he gave me:

2 Insulators 22619843
4 Bolts 11516328

yeah, its monsterous. But the shape is a little diffrent, I'm worried about it hitting the steering arm. plus its a bit shorter and I have to use the second gen end links cause there significantly longer. I'm going to pick up a third gen FE3 bar before i pull my car apart, that way if the 28mm bar dosent work I can put the FE3 24mm bar in. Saves me pulling it apart twice.
I'll let you know how i make out with the second gen bar.
Dont forget to pull the D brackets and bushings when you pull the FE3. And get the endlinks if you don't have stock ones because you should only have a 1" spacer on them for a 3rd gen (sway bar should be parallel to control arms which should be parallel to ground for best performance).
If you want the effect similar to an even bigger bar using the FE3, energy suspension makes poly endlinks and D bushings you can replace the stock rubber ones with.

Yeah I already have brand new third gen end links and they are significantly shorter like I said above. I dont think the second gen sway bar will work because the ends of it arent long enough, even if I use the longer end links they will be at a pretty rediculous angle to make it reach, and I dont want to run it like that.
But we'll see how it fits when I get it apart.
