Coil Spring question
Friday, September 14, 2007 9:08 PM
Can you use aftermarket coilsprings on aftermarket struts and shocks? I want to keep the stock height, but the guy i bought it from put some lowering springs on it. Thanks j-body community!
Pretty much, will this set-up work?

For example:

the shock

this strut

these springs

i know yall will say not to buy any of that, but i am just using that as an example. Can you use aftermarket struts with coil springs?

Yes u can use after market springs with after market struts and shocks but i dont think your going to find a set up springs with the stock ride hieght. I know there are a few sets out there with a very little drop. Those might be your best bet to use.

If you want stock ride height, why are you looking at coilovers?

because they said from 0'' to 3''. so i figured 0'' meant not lowered

Those struts and shocks aren't really meant for lowering to begin with and even if the coilovers are set to their highest ride height the spring rate may be more than what the GR-2s can handle. Suspension Technique or Tein H-techs are the only springs I can think of that the GR-2s would stand a chance against as far as aftermarket springs and that's questionable at best. I agree with Rich though about picking up some oem springs from the parts store or checking the classifieds for a set of factory springs, and that would be a better match for the GR-2s.
