91 cav stock 2.2
I just changed front pads as one started "squeeking' .Passenger was 50%, but not real bad. Drivers outboard was down to GONE ,inboard had about 25%.
what is causing the erratic wear? any suggestions? It seems that if caliper was "hanging up ,the inboard pad would have been pretty bad also.
how's the spacing between the pad and rotor on each side? should be about .010 gap if the caliper is working properly
the front caliper has slider bolts which have to be lubricated occasionally, they dry out, rust, and could cause the side opposite the piston to not move, causing excess wear on the piston side.
i'd recommend checking the slider bolts and replace them, lube with anti-sieze, dont bother cleaning them up just replace 'em.

Cleaning them up and re-lubing them would not cause any problems. I am sure they are just fine, just need some lube. That's kind of like replacing a rotor that is still in spec and has absolutely nothing wrong with it..

the bulk of the wear was on the outside pad. I took out the rubber/plastic bushings and cleaned the holes in the caliper casting out. Then reinserted the bushings and lubed w/ silicone grease, think that will solve the problem-the pin/bolts were clean and appeared ok.

Most likely will solve it, I don't see any reason why not.
