Koni Yellows Inquiry

Can anyone tell me what exactly I need to install Koni Yellows? I keep hearing yellows are a pain in the butt (great struts tho) and that they're just a cover etc you need to use your exhisting struts etc? Any truth and light to shed on any of this? If its gonna be a pain I'm gonna try looking for some Koni Reds (damn near impossible these days). What I currently have right now is Sportlines on KYB GR-2's.

Thanks for the help guys

- Ter.

Thanks for the quick responses guys

The quick last question being, are the Koni yellows just a sleeve/cover (can't find the right word) that you alter your exhisting struts with. Or are they solid struts like the reds?

they do but its one/two piece's of paper, hardly any pics and everything is black/white. they guy that did the above "how to" is your best bet honestly. we looked at the insrtuctions and tossed it to the side and went by the install post.

the rears all u basically have to do it bore out the strut mount shaft hole to accomodate for the bigger koni shaft, tap on the tappered spring perch ring then tap on the spring perch (yes u have to cut it off ur stock strut)

the fronts, you basically have to gut the insides of and then you place the yellow INSIDE the stock strut housing and bolt it in on the bottom (drill a hole through the bottom of the stock strut)

as far as i know, thats the jist of it-at least thats what i got out of cinny's how to.

i just bought yellows this week and should be getting them soon.
for me, i lucked out because i have the junk front struts off my 97 z just lying around, so i dont even have to mess with my stock setup in my 98z, it will just be a un-bolt the old and bolt in the new type thing for me.

I know you know this but... you don't cut it off, tap it off there with a light hammer or rubber mallet..

its all not that bad really if your comfortable with using tools do it with friends and burn some burgers, make a day of it.

all koni fronts are inserts for our cars. reds arent made anymore which is why you cant find them. all you have to do is drill a small hole in the bottom of your front struts to release the pressure in the strut. then cut the strut right above the knuckle. empty out the fluids and insert the koni.
