I was calling around today for new rear brake drums. Everyone I called asked for a size?
I was told its either 7 7/8 or 8 55/64?
My car is a 1995 2.2l Cavalier.
I figured this would be the easiest place to find out.
Thanks guys.
While looking on ebay for parts, ebay states that the rear drums are 200mm? Will those work?
Ecotec cars ('03+) came with larger rear drums, if you need both it might be worth getting the bigger ones for a cheap upgrade. I don't THINK anything else needs to be changed to use the bigger drums, so they should just bolt up.
15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?
since you have rims, i suggest just look through the spokes and look at your rear drums, the info is imprinted on the face of them.
According to what I just found out today inthe 99-04 brake thread, you have the smaller size. I can almost guarantee they were asking you about the export size drums (as long as you told them the year) and not the 03+ drums, since I've been asked the same question before, long before 2003 rolled around, but either way, yours are the smaller size.
If you did want to swap to the larger drums, you would need to swap the backing plate, wheel cylinders, and all the other hardware, since it was also mentioned in the other thread that its a different style system (unless for some weird reason, the backing plate is the same, but I doubt it).
Nice, thanks for the info guys. Appreciate it.
Yep. James has it, and you need the backing plate too, it's different.
The sizes are 200 (86-02) or 225 (03-05). (For domestics only).
