i think it might be my mount. but when im driving i hear a noise not all the time.i notice when i went to check the mounts the driver side had a rubber around it and the nut was in the middle and on the pass side their was no rubber just a nut. it was also missing the metal piece that was around it.i just got my struts done to weeks ago and told him if their wasnt anything wrong to fix.damn mechanic. i think that what it is. thanks for any help
Perhaps one side is an aftermarket mount, or replacement with a different kind...?
I'll give you an example... on third gens (95-05), there were two types used by GM.. while both will work, people seem to prefer one or the other. They are distinctly different, (95-early 99, then late 99-05). But there are also aftermarket mounts available, from Monroe, KYB, etc... that are all different as well. Some work better than others.
The easiest way I've found to check strut mounts, is to sit in place and crank the wheel back and forth (while not driving). That way you're just checking the steering and mount bearing noises... in theory. While moving, all sorts of things can clunk and rattle.
i do hear a squeakin noise
