Rear Sway Bar for 05 Sunfire

What is the best rear sway bar to buy for an 05 Sunfire? I am gonna leave the stock front one but would like to add the rear one.

Read the FAQ
You have a 19mm front, so you want something fairly small. Example: The Addco bar would be too large at 25.4mm. Somthing in the range of 18 to 22mm would work well IMHO.

The Addco in the rear is fine if you like a little bit of oversteer, A 22mm for the rear would probably be a bit more balanced.

If your future intentions are to change out the front bar as well, get the addco now, then when you add a front bar be sure to also include a rear tiebar when installing it.

figures i just bought mine

with the 19mm stock front a 22mm ( RKSport ) in the rear is nice, i rode with that set up for awhile, and it is balanced. I do have the sub-frame brace in the front too.

I don't mind a little oversteer. I would rather install the bigger bar just in case I decide to do the front. Also an I get a rear tie bar from Addco? If not where?

Make your own tie bar. Instructions are around here somewhere, just search it up.

I thought all 03-05's with ECOTEC's had 24mm swaybars?

03-05 should be 24mm, and there is not one on the back, only the strengthening bar in the twist beam.

-19mm stock FE1 bar (stock on 95-99)*
-22mm stock FE2 bar (stock on 2000-2002)*
-24mm stock FE3 bar (stock on 2003-2004)*
-25.4mm addco bar
-25.4mm eibach bar (-sold in combo with their 22mm rear)
-26mm mantapart.com bar
local place = custom bar

That "strengthening bar" you're referring to is actually a sway bar. People like to say it doesn't make a difference but it most certainly does.

Why would you need to strengthen the rear axle? Are they breaking off the base models?

That's great info Cinny. I am gonna add the addcco bar to my car next. Right now I am working on upgrading the stock speakers to see if that is enough to improve the sound system or am I gonna need to go farther. I have the base system in my car.

03-05 did not all come with the 24mm bar. The 24 replaced the 22 and the 19 replaced the 18. There were still two different sizes. They did all come with Ecotec engines, but that doesn't mean the suspension was the same in all of them.

so your saying that the base models on 03-05 had 19mm and the higher models had 22 and 24.or am i misunderstanding you. im just trying to figure out what one i have because im interested in a rear sway bar as well. does any one know what a 04 cavalier would have mine is almost base; options are tilt wheel, floormats,cd player, spoiler if that matters. i think thats it. please help me out

I have the base FE1 suspension in mine. I am gonna assume I have a 19mm bar up front.

then you would be wrong read the chart again it it not only suspension specific but year specific as well.

-19mm stock FE1 bar (stock on 95-99)*
-22mm stock FE2 bar (stock on 2000-2002)*
-24mm stock FE3 bar (stock on 2003-2004)*

FE1 should not be on your 05 j-body from the factory.

It is hard to believe I have a 24mm bar. This thing handles like crap. My 97 convertible had less body roll. It had the factory strut bar, I wonder if that made that much of a difference. Always good info. Looks like I should be able to go with an aftermarket rear bar and be fine with my front.

I hear ya.

It's still not totally clear what FE3, etc... actually means. I thought those were optional suspension packages. If so, I don't have this package because I have a base model sunfire. Which still makes me wonder what size sway bar I really have.

Where is the sticker on this thing that lists all the code for options and stuff?

my 03 does not have a 24 mm bar in the front, thats why I'm putting an addco bar in there.
