i just watched a show today that the people on there used a torch to heat up the stock springs and put pressure on the car to lower it. Does this really work?
yes but its dangerous....don't do it, the money you save by doing that will be negated when those now-damged-by-overheating springs fail and break and you crash and die

This is somewhere in the FAQ.
Damn. Some of you may well know that I do things that others dont agree with when it comes to suspension on a J body.
BUT GOOD LORD MAN DONT HEAT YOUR SPRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!
First off. Its going to be very hard to get it to drop evenly.
Second. THe spring will become brittle and may snap in half while your doing 70 down the highway.
I am all that is man
DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! just buy the right springs for the job do it right and struts also if you have the money if not eventually get struts also

The one, the only, ME.
I did that on my camaro, dropped it 2" all around. Rode fine and never broke a spring in 2 years. The place that did it from me now longer does because of liability now.

ok.. seriously.. Don't heat springs to lower ANYTHING (but a golf kart) hahah
NEVER HEAT Springs, it compromises the integrity of the metal.. and weakens it. if you want to be driving around and BOING SNAP POP CRAAAAAAAAAASH. .. it'll seriously prolly total your car. DON'T DO IT.

Bad idea. Just buy the springs. You can buy a good set for less than $200 if you shop around.
id rather take 30 dollar ebay coils on stock struts then heated springs
I got a set of $30.00 ebay coil overs......

my buddy did that on his old crx and when he rearended a van last winter they broke and the vans exhaust went through the windsheild. bad idea
this used to be popular on the older muscle cars. The springs were thicker, had less chance of compromising the integrity, however, still dangerous. Doing this on a four banger is stupid.

don't do it man, like my father says do it right the 1st time and you wont have to go back and do it again, and in this case, loose your car
just riding around in the 4 door cav
k thanks for the advice guess i wont be doing this, but if anyone has any lowering springs for sale for cheap hit me up with a pm, thanks
Bad, Bad, Bad idea.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Im gonna do this to my other car...
Well, I probably won't heat them- But i might cut them.
Start letting people do what they want to their cars, if they crash and die then oh well let Darwins Throrey do its work.
i saw a car online that used heated springs and caused the spring to crack while on the highway. Completely messed up the front suspension axle etc.. You can weaken the material with heat.

^ No, not can weaken, does weaken.
Our springs are made of self-anealing spring steel. That mean they get harder the more they're heated. If you get them good and hot they will become much harder.
Hard spring steel doesn't bounce, it metal-fatigues.
Metal-fatigue causes cracks, cracks cause accidents.
Springs on cars from the 50s and 60s were made differently than modern springs. Don't compare them.
Any questions?

Sorry replace "can weaken" with "does weaken"
