Hi,
I have a 93 sunbird with a 2.0, that had air conditioning. However, this has long quite working, and I have no intension of ever fixing it.
Can you tell me if my understanding of the following is correct.
The serpentine belt runs the altenator, the power steering, and the water pump, while the AC compresser has its own belt. (Nothing else but the AC is on that 2nd smaller belt?)
The reason I ask is because the pully on the tensioner on this outter smaller belt (the one I think runs the AC) is beginning to squeak. Rather than replacing it, I was wondering if it is safe, just to remove that belt, and be done with it.
Thanks in advance.
Your understanding is correct, and your solution is acceptable.

One thing - the serpentine belt does NOT run the water pump as you said. The timing belt does.
And yes, as mentioned, removing the a/c belt is just fine, or better yet, remove the A/C compleatly
