is it possible to swap a 2.0L with a 3.1L in a 87 sunbird gt, if so what and how much work is involved?

And yes it is possible, many have done a 4cyl to V6 conversion with these cars. The best advice is to grab a donor car, complete with wiring harnesses, etc. Makes the swap go much easier than one piece at a time.

i got a donor car, could move like a beast, but the suncird is in much better shape, and it aint a wagon....lol, thanks for the advice, i am going to try and do this swap over christmas

lol i have a donor car that i can get for free, but i just need a little J-body to put it in. my cavi only has 7k miles on this engine
