2000 engine swap into 1997 cavalier

I have a 1997 2.2 cavalier and transmission that had an engine blow up. I have installed a newer 2000 engine in the car,hooked up to the transmission and all. The 97 engine was not sequential. I know that the 2000 was. Are the crankshaft reluctors to different to fire the 2000 correctly ( as a batch fire engine?) Will I have to change the engine
harness? Please give advise. Thank You
