If you have glasses you might be able to get your doctor to right you up a waiver. If not then suck it up, its illegal.

^^^ agreed. if you didn't go with legal tint when you got it done, that's not the officer's problem.

the doctor thing dont work anymore. i know of people(old) that really needed a note from the doctor for this, but were denied because of people getting fake notes. at least it wont work in NY. i got a ticket last year for mine, and i just stripped the driver and pass. windows. if im driving, the windows are down anyways

Yeah, tint laws suck. I'm not sure about other states, but here in PA it actually can be "the cops fault" your windows are tinted illegally. Basically because of how the law reads (there was a post on it recently so I'm not going to get into detail) it is left up to the cop if it is too dark. Granted nobody's going to get away with limo tint but as far as like 35%, one cop will say it is legal, and the next will say it is not. Just how the law reads. Sure you can take it to court and fight it and win, but in my opinion it is not worth the cost or hassle. Just my 2 cents on when "it's the cops fault someone tint's their windows too dark".

really...i find that a little odd...

Let me quote that other thread. Maybe you missed something because I don't see in there where is says the cops discretion on whether or not you get a ticket. I am going to quote sight-n-sound who has basically the definitive answer.

You sir and the cops have no clue what you are talking about.

**First off Tint is rated for how much light admitance there is. So if the cop is saying 28% is the legal limit he is trying to say that you only need 28% light admitance??? -Wrong

Correct Answer - Legal tint on passenger vehicles which are designated as "Cars" are allowed to have up to 70% Tint. Again that green soft glo on ALL OF YOUR WINDOWS REAR FRONT AND SO FORTH are already at 73% light addmitance or tinted to 73%. If the light meter reads below 70% (69% to 0% and your 28% would be in there) you are in violation. How do I know? I have access to one that cops use.

**Second there is a Table X (10) in the PA Code that has a break down per type of vehicle and the amount of tint. If you do not to the required cross referencing for exceptions. EXAMPLE: Trucks SUVs and Vans being allowed to have over 70% tint on windows behind the driver's compartment as long as they comply to the mirror requirements. If you do not do the cross referencing you are going to get the wrong impression.

Again the Mirror requirements only applies to Trucks SUV's and Cars. YOU MAY NOT ADD ADDITIONAL TINT TO PASSENGER CARS.

Looking at that I don't see how its their discretion. If you fall below 70% on a passenger vehicle, its illegal....seems straight forward to me.

TITLE 75 Section 4524 (e)(1) of the Pennsylvania Common Statutes states that

(1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle.

Note that the law only prohibits tinting which prevents a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle. It does not prohibit all tinting or tinting below 70%.

The Law therefore implicitly permits any tinting which does not prevent a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle.

And to save more arguing, go here and read...
http://www.berksweb.com/users/dmv/tint/
In case you miss it...
The PA Code only prohibits tint "unless otherwise permitted by FMVSS No. 205"

Now did you look at Table X? Just for you I took it off the PACODE website that shows the acceptable limits.

Now also here is the link to the PACODE website that basically shows you everything for tint. PACODE sunscreen device

Also CROSS REFERENCE all codes...

I am not trying to come off as an ass but too much misinformation floats around.

Yes, but here is a link to pacode also, look at line d4 specifically
http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/067/chapter175/s175.67.html
then look up
FMVSS No. 205

Not trying to be a prick either, but like I said, it's the law, one part says ok, the other says no.

its 70% meaning 70% of the light has to be coming through your windows. so if you have 35% tint that means only 35% is coming through. yes thats illegal but its really up to the cop to enforce it if he wants to.

Blink, Trying to get back on topic here. Your cavi. is a convertable right? Well take it to get looked at with the top down. That way more light is getting in and you might be able to get it signed off on. Also because it is a convertable if your rear is even 5% limo all you do is drop the top for inspection. See MD is funny when it comes to certain things,
like for instance convertable tops rear windows. I know you've all seen the cloaded over so baddly plastic windows that you can't tell if its day or night outside. Well you run that thru inspection and it will fail. BUT drop the top and since its not seen they can't fail you for it! Same with tint! Give me a call and I'll see what I can do.

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

Brother, MD Law is %35 front ,back, and sides. Anything darker is ilegal. Chalk it up..and fix it.

Your calling the cop a young punk, but he's not the one riding around with illegal tint and asking an online forum to help him..."circumvent" the law instead of just fixing the d@mn thing.

Where's Jimmy Z already??? Lock this D@mn thing

Say it with me, "Its not what you know...It's what you can prove"

You admit your tint is illegal, but the cop is the punk?

Tint laws aren't there to piss you off, though that seems to be a rather amusing side effect. Suck it up and fix it. We're not here to help you break the law.
