shaved trunk lid

Any members on here from Michigan? My question is, I'd like to in the future shave my trunk lid, lock and inner tails. Is it illegal to have no back up lights? I like the look of a smooth trunk lid but don't want to get pulled over everyday for it. any advice would be helpful.

i dont live in mi but i have had a shaved trunk lid for over 3yrs now with no reverse lights and never been pulled over once for it. i know its illegal not to have them and im pretty sure thats how it is in every state since it lets people know you are backing up. as for inspections go, i have a second trunk lid that i swap on for inspections

my buddy scott has a shaved trunk on his cav with no problems in grand rapids...

I am in north indiana and have no problems either.. have had it on since feb.. I asked my gpa's neighbor who is a cop and he said they are a courtesy more than required.. they are there for others coming to see ur backin up. you need to keep ur eyes out while in reverse much more than u would prolly with lights, but i havent had any problem.. only once at a stop sign a semi truck cut in to early and i had to back up being in the front of the line and the car behind me didnt know i was trying to back up till i guess they saw me creeping back..

But each area will vary.. but u can bet if u get in any wreck while trying to back up or in reverse or somthing.. u can count it automaticly ur fault..

reverse lights are a courtesy thing. its not illegal, but if you back out of a parking spot at wal-mart and somebody creams you because they didnt know you were coming back... the cops will fault you. otherwise its not really a legal issue.
