Wednesday, January 30, 2008 9:51 AM
Ok guys I am having another indoor meet at my house. I have to replace my head gasket. If anyone is interested in coming please put your name down. This time I am renting a heater so we won't freez. If anyone else wants to bring their car and work on it can do so.

I'll have most of the my car apart friday so that way on Sat we won't have to spend lots of time on taking simple parts off.

Date: 2/9/2008

Location: 3702 1st st nw Rochester, MN

Time: 9 am.

Trust me man I would drive out there, but its a pretty big job and if we don't get it done I'm screwed then you know. And this way I can get some of it done on friday so that way we won't have a lot to do.

We can def go bowling, I'm up for it.

broph it would be great to have it at ur house if this wasnt a big problem. he shouldnt be driving the car at all as it is, he is lucky its cold out and he has a short drive to work, hopefully u havnt overheated it have u almir? if he didnt have to worry about having bad oil cuz its mixing with coolant, could mess up stuff from lubrication, as well as if he didnt have to worry about it overheating then coming to buffalo wouldnt be an issue but the car shouldnt be drivin at all.

Hey Gary do i have to pick up new head bolts too ?

You wouldn't think you would need new head bolts..... but If I had the money.... Id'e have everything that might need replaced sitting right next to the car.... but since money is susually an issue with most people (like me) .... I'de probably just get the gaskets I know I need, and make sure I have new oil and antifreeze to go into the car... I recognize most the stuff in that gasket set too.. the only thing that the small rings could be that I can think of would be injector seals..

This is why people like us need another car for a daily driver that isn't modified.... it would be nice if we could just tare your car apart... find out if it's just the head gasket... then get exactly what we need to put it back together..... hopefully it's just the gasket (porbably is) and not something else..

I still have to fix my car.... than I have to check my work schedual..... plus my GF is kinda pissed at me at the moment about something and she probably might be pissy about me going out to "work on cars" again...... but if I work all that out... I'll be there (having to work or not being the big one)....

Well.... my car is "fixed"

Quess why my synchros where grinding........ it was the damn shift cables causing it and there wasn't anything wrong with the tranny at all...... but since I've drivin it that way for soo long my 2nd gear syncro is hurt a little so it will still eventually need some attention..... I just wish I knew it was the cables going out that was causing it in the first place... then I coulda replaced them before I caused any damage....... this means that my tranny swap is still going to happen.... but I can wait until a more oportune time now..... plus my coils havn't messed up again yet but I have spares just in case....

I just have to reinstall my center console and do the other stuff that I still need to do from the cam swap and I'm good for awhile.....

I'm pretty sure that I have to work on the 9th...... I'll have to check to make sure..... but at least I have a car to get there with now if I have that day off..

good man, glad to hear its up and goin now go play with those cams what i did before and after my cam swap (since i was an auto still it was hard to keep it in one gear without it tryin to drop gears on me) was start out in low rpms and keep it in one gear, say put it in 3rd doin 20, then i would try and feel the full powerband of the new cams. i would just give it heavy gas or full throttle and just let them climb till where ever ya know, it would also be cool to say next meet drive matts car then get in ur car sam and drive it. id actually like to feel what matts feels like vs. mine. not tyrin to put ya down or anything matt, just trying to compare butt dynos on how the cams feel

Hey Matt...... I'm wondering how much of a difference your new lutch setup makes... I'm kinda wondering if it will be the equivelant of my cams as far as ecceleration goes or not.... I still have to be a little carefull shifting... but I'm not having any porblems getting it into gear anymore... but whenever I install a better clutch and flywheel I'm still planning on putting a Getrag in there. Wich reminds me..... I really need to get better motor mounts.

Just make sure your AC is off next time

For some reason my HVAC controls arn't lighting up since i replaced my shift cables..... but everything works...... I really don't have a clue whats causing it...

the A/C and rear defroster lights still come on.... just no illumination of the backlights..

Hey Almir.... I checked... and I am schedualed to work that night soo it looks like I won't be able to make it.... I work every other saturday night.... and the 9th just happens to fall on one of those nights I work... It sucks thats since meets are always on a Saturday.... that I have a 50/50 chance of having that day off or not...

Damn that suck man but its ok. Well i took the car in today to have it looked at to c what is going on with it. They said there is no collant in the oil pan right now. So i am taking it back tomorrow to have them pressurise the collant to see where its coming from. I'll let you guys know whats going on. I'm not having them fix it though. The meet is still on.

so u had the coolant mix in the oil before? but now u dont?

Re: Indoor Meet at Rollies

Did you somehow put coolant in the wrong hole?! Didn't you say its overheated before? What about the waterpump? Could the waterpump somehow leak into the oil pan?

Re: Indoor Meet at Rollies
Friday, February 01, 2008 3:32 PM
The waterpump shouldn't be able to leak coolant into the oil.....

It almost has to be a head gasket or a crack in the block or head somewhere.... it's probably just a very slow leak in the head gasket.... and enough hasnt leaked into your oil since you changed it last to see it.

Yeah

I think there is a small tear in the head gasket so its taking it forever to get to the oil, but I don't know yet, I'll find out tomorrow cuz they are doing an estimate for free so I'll let you guys know tomorrow.

Car is running just perfect exhaust does not smell sweet, Its not overheating, and the water pump as replaced at 85K i think. Car still pulls like always im not noticing any power loss.

Probably just a small internal leak in the head gasket then...... swapping it out with a good one (something like a felpro like I always use) will probably fix it...

Re: Indoor Meet at Rollies

Well i just got back from the shop and they pressurized the coolant and the pressure did not drop one bit. They had it in for 1/2 hour and the pressure stayed the same. He said if it was the head gasket, head, or the block it would have droped pressure pretty fast. So I don't know I guess I'm not changing it now I'll wait till next oil change and see what it looks like. I you guys wanna come down to hang out thats fine with me. And this was done by a mechanic who has worked on cavaliers since they came out back in 80's so i trust him. He has done lots of work on 2.3 and 2.4.

idk, ive got a wideband to put in ..... then some tuning to be done..... still a step ahead matt

i just dont no if ill be comin, the girl will prob be back in town so im trying to spend as much time as possible with her, and the wideband install isnt that important to me, its not top priority. something top priority would be fixin ur car almir if we knew the prob. its still a week away maybe ill change my mind, im just in a dump of a mood right now so dont mind me.
